Mark Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I maybe be stupid but!!!! Just renewing the brakes and I have one smaller lining on each drum, where does this one go  leading or trailing And how do you get the drum on after fitting the shoes as they are quite thicker as when they came off :?: Quote
0 ArtistsRifles Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Dunno about the shoe size - but normally on drum brakes there is either a cam or a screw on the back plate that lets you "wind" the shoes back in!! Quote
0 Karoshi Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Mark, the short shoe is trailing. Back off the lower eccentrics to refit the drum. (spelling) Quote
0 Mark Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 Karoshi are you sure I have just spoke to a mechanic mate with a Jeep and he says the short one is leading, now I am confused :? Quote
0 Larry Hayward Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 What vehicle type are you working on? Quote
0 Karoshi Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 OK MB / GPW specific but: 9" x 1.3/4" TM 9-803 Para 148: See items "A" & "H" It is reasonable to assume more braking effort will be required in the forward direction, as speeds may be higher. The "forward" shoe therefore has more lining. Quote
0 Mark Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 Cheers Karoshi I have just found my manual and I concurr the leading shoe is the longest, thanks for your help all of you. Quote
