chevpol
Hi all. was bored the other day, so I looked through my Malta Holiday slides (1988), thought I would share a few with you. philb
These chaps are keeping the side up: http://www.maltahistoricvehicles.com/recent_phts.htm I lived there in the '60s and, given how good the Maltese are at keeping anything going for years after anyone else would have discarded it, the island was crawling (accurate in more ways than one) with desirable hardware. Guest catweazle (Banned Member)
dont know what its like there now though Mark We were there xmas 2008.the stuff you saw on the streets as everyday has nearly all gone, the buses are a lot more up to date.now they are in the EU they have to get rid of all the old stuff, its a shame but i supose the people useing them everyday will be pleased, there is a very good car musuem not long opened.I fear a lot of the identity of the old Malta is slipping away, its a shame as it was on my list to retire to.Canadian/Scottish can probably tell us more he spends time there.not been about recently.you out there mate.cheers cw. Ivor Ramsden
Aye, CW's right. A lot of the old stuff has disappeared in the recent past. Even the Mk1 Escorts are getting thin on the ground. I can't imagine why the old motors are disappearing in such numbers because the cost of importing a car is frightening. It must be well worth spending a few quid/lire/europs (no euros for me, boy) keeping the old stuff roadworthy. I'm doing my bit by supplying Land Rover bits to a couple of mates out there. There was an auction of a collection of MVs in Naxxar, Malta, just before Christmas. Here are the prices raised, as sent to me by my mate: Tilly at €750 (Austin) Bedford not sold at €500 but afterwards had 3 offers so it was sold later Willys jeep €2300 Willys jeep body shell + parts €800 Bedford 15cwt €5500 Norton 16H €4800 Matchless G3L €2800 BSA M20 €1800 These prices are europs, remember, and the exchange rate wasn't as bad then as it is now. The bikes and the MW were restored. The Jeep was a bit ropey but appeared to be fairly complete. The shell was new. A couple of Fordsons didn't sell; they were a 15cwt and a 3 tonner, I think. Both were rough.

Is this the 15-cwt you refer to? http://ccmv.fotopic.net/p55468094.html "Partially restored 1940 Fordson WOT2A 15cwt GS truck at auction. Malta, November 2008. (Peter Skerry)" And the 3 tonner? http://ccmv.fotopic.net/p55222755.html "Extremely rare Fordson WOT6 (or WOT8?) of 1942 vintage at an auction in Malta in November 2008. Great War truck
Am i right in saying that you cant (legally) export classics like these out of Malta? Tim (too)
Ivor Ramsden
Is this the 15-cwt you refer to? And the 3 tonner? Yes to both. I'm not aware of any export restrictions on stuff like this but they do have some very strange laws out there so it could be true.
