antarmike Posted November 7, 2008 Share Posted November 7, 2008 A pathfinder Mosquito has the worst possible luck! 235 Lancasters and 7 Mosquitos of No 5 Group attempted to cut the Mittelland Canal at its junction with the Dortmund-Ems Canal at Gravenhorst. The marking force experienced great difficulty in finding the target. However the crew of a low-flying Mosquito - pilot: Flight Lieutenant LCE De Vigne; navigator: Australian Squadron Leader FW Boyle, No 627 Squadron - suceeded in finding the canal, only to see their marker go down with such accuracy that it landed in the water and was extinguished. Only 31 aircraft bombed, before the Master Bomber ordered the raid to be abandoned. 10 Lancasters were lost. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
