Fairey Battles attack the Maas Bridges. Five flew the mission but only one returned.

 

Flying Officer Garland and Sgt Gray where awarded posthumous V.C.s

 

These were the first Air Victoria Crosses of the war

 

It is becoming increasingly obvious that a lot of the RAF's planes are completely outclassed.

 

Two days later (14th May) the remaining Fairey Battles and Blenheims attack bridges in the vicinity of the German breakthrough near Sedan in France.

 

71 Aircraft attack but 39 are shot down.
