Oochiad
Good evening, A friend is fitting a 330 engine to a vehicle that had a 214 petrol in originally with vacuum/hydraulics brakes, an option to keep the same brake setup would be to fit an electric vacuum pump to get around the problem that 330s have air compressors fitted. Has anyone had any experience of this please as it seems to be a good solution. Many thanks in advance.
Oochiad
Having trawled through many threads I found one where a chap has replaced a 300 petrol to a 330 diesel and to get around the conundrum they used a transit alternator with a vacuum pump attached to feed the hydraulic brakes setup so there is no reason why an electric vacuum pump will be a good solution. 👍
Richard Farrant
Many years ago I used to rebuild all sorts of Bedford engines in an army workshop and seem to recall we used to get some 330 diesel engines that had a different timing case with facility for a vacuum pump to be fitted, it engaged with the timing gears, pretty sure it was for the SB coaches. john1950
I would think an addition of this sort would be of help to any vehicle with vacuum brakes and relying on butterfly and manifold to supply its power. Anyone with wipers going uphill? I remember the addition of a vacuum tank had to have the addition of a gauge on a J type Bedford.
