Unusual WWII period Wooden Battery Box

I have a wooden battery box that is made in the same way as those fitted to Airborne Jeeps or the larger version on REME Electrical Repair Trailers, but it is smaller.

Size is: W = 7" x L = 5" x H=8".

Can anyone tell me whether they were used by the military, and if so, what equipment they were used with?
