Richard Farrant
Hi Benny, I had dealings with these in REME workshops back in the 80's. We had one that shut down as you describe and the electricians found that it was a faulty battery. I cannot tell you any more as my dealings with them were mainly in the engine and trailer only. regards, Richard
Bennyboy
Thanks Richard, any info is useful, I will check the batteries out, it does fire up ok ,but may require full battery voltage to exicte the gen end to start producing or switch to load, I work with an electrician thats also ex forces and he is going to try dig up some info, I fear it may need a reflash of the rotor, or an AVR issue but dont wanna go too deep until ime sure,I dont have it at my place yet so only ran up couple of times to see what was what ,if i get it sorted, Ile post findings for future ref, as these things come up now and again, and they are good machines so reckon they be around for a while, Thanks regards Benny
Richard Farrant
Benny, Another quick thought. If it shuts down immediately after starting, it might be a faulty engine monitoring sensor such as oil pressure or coolant temperature. regards, Richard
Bennyboy
Yeah thats true, the guy i bought it from had dissconected the shut down solenoid, to prove it ran, so other than that i havnt spent any time on it, but he said the fault exists, and is saying no output current, but i think you may have to switch the load switch to on ? he never did that so unsure if it loads up automatiucally, or it needs switch thrown, the output voltage he recorded at the 240volt socket was 22 volts which sounds like battery voltage, if its 24v system, but again i havnt even looked to see how batteries are connected up, ile keep you posted how i get on, always handy to exchange info .doing an old unimog just now, new elements and plungers in the fuel pump, its all set up now, finished timing it up today, just need to wash fuel tank out put clean fuel in see if i get a tune out of it, then sort the rest of it out LOL forever tinkering and never done. Thanks again Benny
