ploughman
Just found this on the BBC Lincolnshire page Radio appeal nets new home for RAF fire engine collection The country's only Ministry of Defence firefighting museum has been found a possible new home after it's founder issued an appeal for help. BBCCopyright: BBC Steve Shirley, who runs the Museum of RAF Firefighting, appealed for help after the lease on the warehouse where the collection of 52 antique fire engines is currently housed at in Scunthorpe was due to come to an end. Following Mr Shirley's appearance on BBC Radio Lincolnshire, Richard Walsh, the managing director of Thurlby Motors, came forward to offer the collection a new home at Alford. Mr Shirley said: "We're very very grateful indeed and we'd love to explore the possibility." The collection had been housed at RAF Scampton until 2017 when it had to move as space was needed to organise an airshow.
Richard Farrant
I hope it works out well for Steve and his team this time. He has an impressive collection. I have known him for about 28 years when I was involved in restoring two of the early vehicles in the collection.
Smithy
I think this is the third time they've had to move now. If Scampton is saved, whenever it does close, hopefully they can return to their original home of many years.
Richard Farrant
It actually originated at the Fire School at RAF Manston where Steve was stationed at the time. That was the period when I was involved with the vehicles in the Museum. I wish them luck this time, it is now a fantastic collection.
