Mrs Hardyferret Posted July 12, 2007 Share Posted July 12, 2007 We drove down to Buckfastliegh last weekend and took part in a gathering there, right in front of the station. The Buckfastliegh to Totnes line - annual meeting place for the Devon MVT - an event put on for the participants rather than the public. In fact it is not advertised at all to the public, but if visitors would like to look around they are most welcome and not charged any entrance fee. The format of the weekend is very relaxed and informal. People start to arrive on Friday and stay through to Sunday. There are several road runs over the weekend all great fun with terrific work from the Dispatch riders, marshaling the vehicles and escorting them on the runs. The biggest run (approx 30 vehicles) was late Saturday afternoon from Buckfastliegh to Widacombe-in-the-moor where there is a stop for refreshment and then the return trip stopping high up on the moor for photos. For those that don't want to do the runs or who don't have a vehicle but may wish to wear period costume or uniform the train will give rides for free to and from Totnes.
