Davenport Miles counter

Hi.

 

On a c1921 truck chassis I have, there was a Davenport Miles counter attached, mounted on the nearside chassis rail, about half way along, driven by an output shaft from the gear box. Has anyone seen another one surviving?

Nothing quite like that. The more usual place is the front hub like this Stewart Warner:

Hi Andrew, is your chassis an English truck? I have 2 American makes with mileage recorders in the front hubs, and the mid twenties albion truck I've got has a recorder halfway down the chassis like yours, driven by a cable from the rear of the gearbox, I think its albions own recorder? same idea, different maker?

Hi lads,

 

It seems there was a few different styles of counters, but not that common. Keeping track of the Miles would be a good thing for servicing, but I guess it was early days in the development of trucks.

 

The chassis is a Clarkson (steam) lorry, built in Chelmsford, Essex.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that there was a business relationship between Clarkson and Davey Paxman.I may be wrong just got to remember where I read it :nut:.
