Snapper
Is this a location on the Op Bolero route? Superb looking museum. Is there room to add more stuff on the site (if found?). Too many questions. Looks like a worthy place to visit. When finally get my brain in gear viz posting snaps I should put some up of a memorial to a Liberator crew in a seafront car park (!) at Greatstone in Kent. Apparently some of the plane is visible out to sea at low tide during certain times of the year; shifting sands and all that.
Bodge Deep
I think it is one of the Bolero destinations. A brilliant place and well worth a visit. You can almost see them coming in when you stand at the rail on the control tower roof.
Jessie The Jeep
The 100th Museum at Thorpe Abbotts is indeed on the Bolero Tour. The museum is free, and run by people who care that the deeds and actions of the 100th BG aren't forgotten. The museum started in 1977 when a group of locals banded together to restore the empty abandoned tower. Pictures inside the tower show how much work was involved in the creation of the museum. It is considered one of the best museums covering the 8th Air Force, and has a large collection of artifacts and personal items, many donated by 100th BG veterans and their families. There are many displays with uniforms, flight clothing, equipment and documents, along with many original photos of life around the base. Bodge Deep
Spent about 3 wonderful hours there on saturday... just sitting in the sunshine, pottering about, chatting with the curators and looking at it all... again... as a p51 buzzed slowly over the field in the distance... wonderful... got me quite in a Bolero frame of mind!
