Irish Army CJ3A resteration

Hi guys, My brother is restoring an Irish Army Willys CJ3A Jeep. His Internet connection is very bad so I said I would do a thread for him. When you look at the picture you might ask "Why bother" in short, Irish military vehicles are quite rare. The Irish Government prefer to destroy there vehicles rather than sell them to the public (Yes, a sore point over hear).

The restoration is in the very early stages and we were wondering if anybody knew who in the UK is dealing in CJ parts. Even better would be any second hand body parts?

Believe it or not the chassis and running gear can be saved!

It was an original barn find, but the barn had burned down :nut:. The reg is ZL 1233. Yes, I saw the other Thread. We had no idea the Jeep was military until recently. It was only after doing some research on my Morris Quad that we came across some reg numbers of Irish military vehicles.

Is the other thread about your Jeep? I am taking a trip to Dublin in the new year to the Irish military archive, I could have a look for your reg if you like?

I have a Grille (with headlamps, 1 broken), and a Hood with Willys script on it.

Also the radiator shroud but where that is now I'm not sure.

And I live in the Netherlands.

Hi, could you send me a PM and let me know how much you want for the parts, is the hood in good condition? Some pictures would be great too :-D thanks

Front and rear axles have been removed from the chassis so has the steering column, also the brake peddle + master cylinder and clutch peddle. I have parts ordered for the chassis such as the rear crossmember and front spring hangers. Just waiting word as to weather the shock mounts on the chassis are available. Won't have these parts till March, but I will be getting the chassis sand blasted and primed later this month.

I am a new member here and just checked back on old records and can tell you that Willy's Overland, 15.6hp, 1952 model, registration number ZL 1233 was sold at public auction in Clancy Barracks on the 1st of December 1965 by Sheeran's Ltd, 25 Batchelors Walk, Dublin. Sorry I dont have a sale price but can tell you that at a previous sale on the 25/9/63, 9 were sold including 3 Willy's vans with the highest price then for one of the vans being £56.00 down to £15.00 for one of the jeeps.

Thats fantastic, any chance we could get a copy of that page from your records. I am hoping to put a nice file together of it's history.

We are also restoring a 1942 Irish Army Morris (Quad) artillery gun tractor. I only have part of the reg number.

chassis number; 1929 F.W.D 8580 C8

Reg number: ZD 317.....

Not even certain about the 317 part but it is the best I can make out. I know the Transport museum has ZD3177 and that there were 35 Quads bought by the Irish Army in 1942 so it is very likely that the number's were sequential and that it is 317...

Would you have any info on this vehicle?

At that Auction on the 1st of December, just 2 Quads were sold, ZD 3194 & ZD 3196 and then at another on the 23rd of April 1969 31 more were sold and all of the ZD 3170 - ZD 3179 in that sale and as I dont have chassis numbers am unable to pin down the exact reg for yours.
