keithh
Hi All, Thought I would try posting in the British vehicles section this time! I have recently discovered that the right rear road hub of my Mk2 Ferret had leaked enough oil to contaminate the brakes. The road hub all came to pieces as expected with most pieces looking pristine. The six of steel dowels that fit the planet gear cage to the stub axle are showing a small amount of wear and I would like to replace them. Can anyone tell me if the dowels are mild steel? I am able to cut the existing dowels with a hack saw blade so the dowels do not appear to be hardened. Just interested to know what anyone else might have used or if they have simply loctited the originals and re-installed. andyroo
Keith, I've done this job myself. Bought the dowls from Banisters. I realy dont think they will be mild steel. They wont be hard, as they would just sheer, hece you can cut them. They will be tough though. If I was makeing any for myself, I would use EN24T as a minimum spec steel (EN42 better). Some cap head bolts would do the job. Get some that are next size up and turn them down to be a very good sliding fit. Andy
keithh
Hi Andy, Thanks for the feedback. I will try turning down the cap head bolts and go from there. Regards, Keith
