boomboom Posted April 4, 2012 Share Posted April 4, 2012 Repairing a broken bearing today and got all the bits out exept the outer casing of the bearing i tried a pullers and i tried the hot spanner but it wouldnt move SO. I pumped grease in and around the back of the bearing . then got a bit of billet steel that only just slid in where the bearings were and gave it a good smack with my trusty hammer and would you believe it ,,,,,,The outer bearing race shot out .....But wear a pair of Goggles and a hoody:D boomboom Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Posted April 5, 2012 Share Posted April 5, 2012 Another option is to run a bead of weld around the bearing inner (running) surface - as it cools the shell contracts and falls out :-) Keep weld spatter off the exit route of the bearing shell of course!
