skapunkninja
Are there any adjustments that can be made to the caster on an MB? The steering wont recenter itself after turning, and the steering is pretty much non existant above 50mph:undecided: The toe and camber are both ok. im not too sure what reference points to use to check the caster, but experience on modern vehicles tends to point to a caster problem
willysmb
There isn't much in terms of adjustment on a Jeep ..and Im trying to understand what you mean by Caster.. Firstly how much PLAY do you get on the steering wheel befor the wheels start to move .. an inch and a half is about right ..more and you may need to rebuild your steering box. Have you checked all the links from the steering box to the front axle pivot point .. they may have wear in them worth a full strip down and clean to check all the bits that makeup the steering linkage .. also work checking that your front swivel joints are ok.. and have enough oil/grease
Nick Johns
The caster angle is dictated by the angle of the front springs, this was the reason for fitting the extra torque spring on the drivers side, to maintain the coreect caster angle, some other vehicles required small tapered wedges to correct the angle, but its not usually a problem on the Jeep, you say the steering won't self centre? has the steering box adjuster bolt been set to tight?, are you comparing the handling to more modern stuff, driving older vehicles with a steering box and drag link system, cart springs and cross ply tyres, they always seem, and are very vague compared to modern steering racks Edited May 14, 2011 by Nick Johns
