ferretfixer
Nick, Nice pics! I noticed the windscreen & side window covers on the Landy. Are they a standard issue set? Or did you make them up yourself in camp? The reason I ask is, I have just acquired a 110 Defender FFR & want to use it in the Radio Op mode. The screens would be a very usefull privacy additon as well! Dont know too much about TUM's/ TUL's as at my Rank level it was, OI, You! Bring that Rover here, put that in, Hand me that radio Mike Etc.....lol! Never had to do much with these vehilces in Service as I was too busy 'In a supervisory Capacity'!.............. Cheers, Mike
Watchdog8891
Nice pics.Did the landys have rad muffs as standard in norway? Yes they did, we only used them when the vehicles were parked up, if you left them on for a bit whilst you were running the engine to recharge the radio batteries or drove with them on the temp gauge went up rather quick

Cheers, Mike They came like that as a standard fit, for most of the AMF(L) units in Bulford, all windows had a twist lock or velcroe straps covers which were handy when you went tac. These lany's also had pre heat for the engine, which you switch on 5 minutes before you started up, sort of a pre heat, preheat, also in the rear cab (which had a thermal lining) they had twin heaters running the length of it ;toasty once they were going. The only thing I found that the 'sun roof' sometimes leaked, Thanks Nick Edited December 2, 2010 by Watchdog8891
airportable
Excuse my ignorance on your Landi/kit age in the last pic. What year is that as I'm intrested in your antenna set up, and what radio is on the other end?
Watchdog8891
Excuse my ignorance on your Landi/kit age in the last pic. What year is that as I'm intrested in your antenna set up, and what radio is on the other end? It was between 1991 and 1993, I had a 321 HF set and a 353 VHF set and a 320 man pack in the rover along with mast, battery chargers, and bags of spare headsets and parts http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clansman I Think I had the twin mast and down wire connected to the 321 set... marmon
Hi Nick, Great pictures, I guess it didn't smell too bad being that cold... Couple of questions as I have a 110 helicopter support Norway equipped from 93, The Webasto preheater I've been leaving on for hours in this recent weather, even overnight on occasion, it certainly keeps the interior, engine, battery and the fuel tank nice and warm, is this not how it was used in service? I thought maybe it was just left on all the time in very cold weather? The battery seems to be good for at least 36 hours. Also it has quick disconnects in the heater hoses from the Webasto, it looks like you can quickly by-pass it I was wondering why? Also the heater fan does not work when the webasto is turned on is this normal? I always drive with the rad muff on just with the velcro flap half open, seems the only way to get heat out of the standard heater! Only creeps up to the hot when fully closed and on the motorway. Cheers Quentin

Cheers Quentin Quentin, I recall that we were briefed only to use the preheater prior to starting up, once the vehicle had to switich it off, they (REME) didnt explain why, I thought it may have been due to excessive drain on the battery. Sorry I cannot help you out with the other questions, I cannot recall if my cab heater worked at the same time, I was wearing so many layers I put grizzely adams to shame !!
