Nick Johns
? DMV...CA is the Dept of motor vehicles California, is this number stamped on the chassis, where? is yours a Ford or Willys chassis?, it could have been a rebuild that used another chassis and has been re stamped by the Californian DMV. 56863 was built in March '42, but Ford numbers are allways prefixed with *GPW ......* and stamped on top of the drivers side chassis rail near the engine mount, whereas Willys used an ally tag riveted to the inside of the NS front spring hanger, this is often missing, the engine number you list 639660c is the raised casting number, the engine number is stamped on a machined pad at top of block behind the oil filter Edited September 28, 2010 by Nick Johns
