Grasshopper
Just got the reconditioned Holley carb for our M55 back from Southern Carburetors today. As its so shiny (and won't stay that way) I thought i'd post a couple of pics on here. One of the pictures gives a good indication of how large it is! Bodge Deep
Crimes thats big! Don't leave that pint next to it for too long that carb looks seriously thirsty
Grasshopper
Much like the bloke thats going to fit it! If a pint is about half a litre, does that make it a 2 litre carb?
Tony B
How high is the octane in that beer then? Ah , I get it! A size comparison we all understnd!

Grasshopper
Got in trouble for that too as she hasn't finished reading it and it no smells of petrol!
CVRTNick
It was made by Holley in the 1950’s for a 10L engine,,which does about 3/4mpg,which explains why it is the size it is!
CVRTNick
& it is the only Carb I have seen, with its own grease nipple.
paulob1
is that the same engine as the one in my M62 Continental R6602, 9865 cc 0r 602 cu inches...big old buggers aren't they, lovely though.......why did you have it rebuilt...
CVRTNick
Yep.off my M55 truck (LWB M54),its from a 10L Continental R6602 engine which is in my M55 & the reason for a rebuild was the M55 broke down for the first time (on the M25) last year. The prime suspect is the carb (as in wasn’t a fuel or elec problem & the inside of the carb was black with soot, from the amount of times the engine had backfired though it),even if it it’s not the problem,I go with every little helps & it can’t hurt! CVRTNick
One thing about it being cleaned,it showed up (it came as a surprise!) bits of chrome on it (looks like it was a civiy carb).
Grasshopper
We'll find out if it works on Friday... Had to wait till Sunday, but the truck fired up just fine. Taking it out this Sunday and may do a little tuning when it is warmed up.
paulob1
sounds good, my carb is still suffering from crap in the fuel lines, have cleaned most of it out now but am fitting a new tank next weekend and this should give me nice clean fuel...the engines run very sweet for a 10 litre petrol engine...what fuel consumption do you get on a run...what weight are you empty...i am about 20 tons with the M62. CVRTNick
My M55 is about 13ton empty & can take about 10ton in the back,it had a base overhaul in 1969 so I guess it got a replacement R6602 engine as when I got it in 1998,it had about 2500miles on the clock. It does about 3 or 4 mpg,as Grasshopper (aka Vince!) has just changed the fuel filter,I will find out on Sunday how much fuel tank stuff it caught, but for a big petrol lump (10L) they (fingers crossed!) are a good engine.
