Michael Oliver

I would like to remember Michael Oliver, founder of the Great Dorset Steam Fair, who died last Sunday, aged 75.

I have many happy memories of Michael, and remember with joy all the "Stourpaines" I have been to since 1987.

I am sure that many members of this board knew Michael personally, and have enjoyed the shows he put on and the legacy that will live on thanks to Martin's commitment to his fathers legacy.

I am sure there are many hear who will wish to expess their condolences to Martin and his family.

His son Martin has effectively been running the show for the past few years because Micheal's health hasn't been good.

Knowing that Michael hasn't been well doesn't make it any less of a shock, but yes I am sure the show will go on.

I went to my first GDSF this year and was amazed by the size of the show and the variety of vehicles on display. It must surely take a special kind of person to organise something like this and I'm sure he will be missed by all who new him.
