  1. Hi all, I’m after a complete oil tank and fan/radiator assembly with pipes fittings etc as I want to run my engine up as a power pack. Regards Andrew
  2. Hi I’m after some j60 bits to finish my rebuild. Starter, flywheel and dipstick and tube and drain tap. Anyone got a scrap j60?
  3. Dear Robin,

Any chance you could give me some advice on the correct method for removing the crank pulley from the crankshaft off a ferret engine. I am replacing the dynamo setup up on my Humber truck with the 90amp set up from a Ferret engine, but have no idea how one removes the pulley assembly.

    regards

    Andrew

  4. Hi, what have you got? Sorry I missed your reply? andrew
  5. Dear All, I'm in the very slow process of restoring my Humber 1 ton truck. I'd like to do a period upgrade on it(non original, but removable) by replacing the 24v dynamo and generator panel with a no 10 generator and no 9 gen panel, of which I have a few lying around. These were an official mod on Ferrets I believe, but required a change in mounting brackets on the engine block and also pulleys and belts. I will, if I can, use the original generator pulley. Can anyone help? If any one has any another B60 or Humber parts I would be very interested to hear from you. I also need the yellow oil light lens? regards Andrew
  6. Well, I managed in the end to get 2 Pistons from David Manners and a second head from the jag spares day at the NAC. Not a bad day in all! Gasket from xmod and the rebuild can start:-)
  7. Sorry, I did know that, it's my collective term for than one person.. I do the same at work with 5 blokes and 2 women. Lazy... Your input input much appreciated. Andrew
  8. Hi chaps, thanks. Fuel is definitely filling the float chamber, but not sure where it is then going to. The carb looks in very good nick, the engine had done very few miles since its rebuild. I think I might need to have a look at the pumps on each side, and finally, looking down the choke Venturi, I assume the choke is off with the small butterfly flap open? This suggests to me that the choke rod has to be pushed on rather than pulled on? Regards Andrew
  9. Dear All, if I may high jack this old thread. In getting my j60 back on the road following a broken exhaust valve ( and piston), I remember having a problem trying to start it. It only coughed when I poured a little of petrol down the throats, so I suspect a blocked jet. Being a solex (non Marcus) I'm assuming that with the float chambers full, if you open the throttle you should also get a jet of petrol squirted into the throat, like a landrovers carb does. Am I right? If the main jet is blocked could someone point out which one it is? I have no manuals. Grateful for some help, I'm still after 2 Pistons (std size) as none of the businesses seem willing to sell anything less than a full set. regard Andrew
  10. Looks like it will have to be banisters; no-one does individual pistons anymore.... does anyone know the part number of the thick exhaust valves that a j60 has? regards, Andrew
  11. Richard, that's most kind thank you Andrew
  12. Thanks, I'll try xk engineering. (Does anyone know their price for a piston?) Also, I've tried to find banisters on google. Are they a us site? Any chance of a link? Andrew
  13. Trouble is I think he wants £800 for the lot...
  14. Does anyone know who/where I might get a single low comp standard piston from. I've tried David manner group and sngbarrat and neither sell pistons singly. Andrew
  15. Well the heads off and I'm a bit gutted. The head of the exhaust valve had snapped off, and firing it up just for that cough had caused the head of the valve to embed itself in the piston and part of the stem to embed itself in the head. Neither are difficult to fix but it was only ever meant to be be a plaything (!) not something that I was going to pour hundreds of pounds at. Both the block and the rest of the head are in excellent condition, so I may consider it...Once that's done I only need head, exhaust and inlet gaskets, only the head gasket I don't have.
  16. The head gasket above seems to be the same as HG266, for sale on eblay...at a price.
  17. Yes had them off; it's no 4 exhaust valve. I suspect it's bent as I've drowned the spring and stem in oil and tried to tap it down with a drift but no good, the head will have to come off.....
  18. hi all, I found this thread very useful as I tried to start my j60 that been sitting around for about 2 years outside (in its crate) I got as far as a cough when I resorted to tipping a little bit of petrol down the carb throats, but then the engine locked solid. It will rotate to a certain point, lock up, then backwards to a certain point then lock again, so I reckon a stuck valve. It's a ribbed block, and I'm in the process of stripping it down. The question is, can anyone give me the part numbers for the piston, head gasket and and exhaust valve? Thanks Andrew
  19. Hi all, does any know where I can find a champ wiring diagram? also, I have a champ generator, no1 mk2 I think, single speed? Would this be 24 volt or 12 volt, and could a landrover voltage regulator be used to regulate it does anyone know? thanks Andrew
  20. Jack, this is a really enthralling thread although I realise I am a little late to it. My interest in it stems from the fact that I bought a champ engine to do up, and I need a reference point to work From. I'd like to put it in one of my land rovers but could be a little tricky. i noted in the previous page you were in 1RTR. Don't suppose you bought a 1RTR sign recently did you.....? Andrew
  21. Hi, I'm Andrew, dare I say another import from the EMLRA. as the title suggests I'm a bit into land rovers; currently the count is 9, of which 5 are military, one rover 8 toastie, one rover 8 ffr 90a, one rover 1 ffr, , one rover 9 ffr and a series3 lwb ffr. And a 2a 1ton, plus the rest. I'm from wilts. Greetings!
