  1. thanks for posting these great pics clive cant wait to see more . i rearly do admire the unipower i am 100 % sure that unipower would of been leading the world in heavy specialist trucks but as all ways wot chance has a company got if they cant get the backing of there own government nick
  2. sorry about the socket abuse but its been made to exacly the same size as the bearing just perfect fot the job of pushing it back in without touching the shaft
  3. wots a hard working guy got to do round here to be able to go grab a beer before he sits down with the laptop . well the gd news is that there are 6 wheels on my wagon again crisis is officaly over as of yesterday started off on sataday by goin down and removing the the replacement wheel station from a gd friend of mine,s spare axel which has sat out side for a gd few years . started by removing the hub to check eveything was gd before removing the caseing . all was well a little rusty but the internals where fine so the caseing and hub came home with me . sunday was spent cleaning bearings removing rusted wheel studs from a gd wheel hub and replacing them with the studs from my bad hub the nuts on the inside of the hub where well rusted so had to resort to drilling and splitting them to get the brake drum off . i did intend on using my brake drum at first but just before i went to refit it i found three hairline cracks going across the stud holes so had to clean up the spare brake drum and fit that . monday headed down to work to start pressing out the parts from the donor wheel station and press them back into my original wheel station along with my original gear and shaft and hub from the donor . took a bit more force this time to press out the shaft from the gear and when it did decide to let go it did with an allmighty bang which lifted the dust from out of the roof . we had to press the bearing off the donor shaft as it was a little worn and this ment pressing out the keyways which was easy after a little head scraching on how to do it . we decided to let the bearing push them out as it was pressed off the shaft . next was to start putting things back together pressing all the bits back in went well. took a few attempts to get it right flipping the casing over a few times to get things in the right places but we did it in the end. the rest just bolting on the station and fitting the hub back on which is all done now , just needs a bit of oil in the caseing and its done . and andy i have found a new use for your hub socket see if u can spot it .

  5. rearly sorry about the pics mate ill get some more of the rebuild operation for ya the press wasent that big by my standards but it mite be big by yours i used an press with an electric power pack to do the pumping and it didant seem to struggle at all just went with a small bang and it was free
  6. eveaning all . just a little update on whats been goin on with this end caseing. i spent monday takeing it to bits so i can have a go at repaireing the taper and keyway at a later date and have ready any bits i need to go on to my other wheel station which i am yet to collect . i was supprised how easy it was to dissassemble the wheel staion brake drum came off ok and the shaft gear and bearings all pressed out of the caseing a treat. the only tricky bit of the job is getting the heavy lump on to the press table . but with help of a fork truck this was done with ease . so i am now in two minds to do the same with new wheel staion so i can assemble new parts in old caseing but ill make my mind up come the weekend. speed is of the escensce as next show is comeing up fast . sory but no piccys of this little opperation as i was working in our workshop in a weekday so was hard to take pics working on my own so i just craked on with the job nick
  7. well today was the day me and this little hub problem got to know each other a little better , after trying to heat the nut up to release it had failed i then looked into makeing another nut so i removed the rear hub cap and nut this time with great ease proveing to me that something was wrong in the other hub way before i got there . so after checking that a nut could be made i decided it was time that the stuck nut got introduced to MR gas axe which removed the nut wihout hardly any dammage to the threads form it only problem being the nut was hideng the most damaged threads . so things where not looking gd at this point . i then slackened off the brake pads to then have the hub nearly fall off and land in my lap . the sky started to cloud over at this point as now all hope of this being a simple fix was now gone . afrer laying the hub on its back the two keys where just lay loose in the bottom of the hub . not a gd sign me thinks  and turns out that no oil was leaking from the seals all oil is leaking from the falcrum pin. decided after the all this bad news the best way forward was to take the whole walking beam end off which was fairly easy apart from it being a little chunky shall we say . so i am now in need of a complete wheel station ( hub shaft and caseing ) wot are people,s thoughts on mateing a different wheel station off one truck on to another is this a gd idea? or will it require the gear wheel out of the casing mateing to the new hub to match ware pattens ? brake shoes are like new so is the brake drum no rust wot so ever . but while i have been writing this my replacment parts have been sourced allready so the happy ending is in sight after all
  8. cheers mate hopeing to get stuck into takeing it apart when i get home from work sataday nick
  9. no i am not crying just yet rob . out and about at work at the mo jus parked up for the nite in york with a beer . praying this hub is goin to be ok . in the time i have had the truck and the miles i have coverd in him now i have never experienced any signs of a loose hub but it still worries me tho :-(
  10. dont blame me if there are only 5 wheels on your wagon in the morning rob :-)
  11. i cant see me getting much sleep this week  looks like freddy krueger has visited my explorer . A NIGTMARE ON TOLPITS LANE .
  12. i havent looked at the others yet i am not that brave i think when the hub fell off the people who but it back together did not have the know how or the tools to get the hub tightend up properly i ground a little of the weld away then have it a little tap to get the feel and the nut turnd easily well untill it got stuck  so i dont think it was every tighted up properly since it was last off
  13. ok ok yours mite be bigger rob but it dosent feature an anti theft device built in bloody thing is so heavy u wouldant run off with it and if u did manage to get it into a vehical it will either slow u down or overload your vehical , think i went a little over the top with the spacer and nut made out of 6 inch solid bar
  14. thanks for looking i just went to look in my manual but i have gone left it in the livingbox . nick
  15. thanks andy ill get it sorted just as allways the rite tools for the job are allways hard to obtain just when u need them on a sunday afternoon . will have a look around at work and see if i can find a tap and die so a repair can be done or ill just make a new nut . well see when it comes off. it is just a matter of time and head scratching , dose anyone know if the grub screw idea is a MOD thing or a one off thing on mine , aslo wot is the correct thread on the shaft and nut so i can source a tap and die . nick
  16. well today i finaly got round to starting the hub seal job on floyds leaking hub , all started well got all that nasty chickin poo weld off the outside of the nut and cracked the nut off with no problems untill i got the nut about halfway off the shaft and thats where its decided to stay. i can not for the life of me shift it in either direction .:banghead: i know you all will be thinking that i must of noticed something wrong before it got stuck but i just took it as a bit of weld getting in the way so carried on , then after much head scracting and a gd douseing in wd40 i uncoverd two grub screws on opposite flats of the nut . ( i am banging my head off side locker at this point ) backed off the grub screws and removed them with ease considering i could hardly see them with the heads rusted up . so after more head scratching decided to remove the wheel and apply a little heat . but that faild my blowtourch wasant big enough . so next plan is to drag the oxy up to where i keep the truck and got some propper heat into it . here are some pics of my over engineered anti theft sloging spanner .
  17. my my we have been a busy body these last weeks gd work rob now u have took the lead in the removal of hubs it is safe for me to start on my hub seal this weekend after i have delt with the troublesome pigion poo welding :argh: sorry i didant make an appearance at llandudno this year rob i was out with the explorer a litle closer to home but not much tho . also floyd is running better than ever now after checking the pump over some one had screwd the fuel down so much that the cold start wouldant click in thats y i could never get it too work . nice little bit of black smoke when pulling hard cat weazzel would be proud , goes better now with the living trailer on the back than it ever did solo ,
  18. no worries andy was nice of u to pay a visit thanks for the lending of the tools aswell loggy driver u are correct its a small radio body mounted on a rubery owen 2 ton trailer it wobbels around a lil bit but i am not going fast so its fine . i just made some brackets that fit inside the ege of the box to hold it down i think i went a little over the top using inch plate but its not goin to fall off , off to stoke goldington next week
  19. thanks for the pics rob thats given me a few things to look at i will check the butterfly valve opening also i will have a play with the fueling it did cross my mind that the fueling screw had been messed with by previous owners . how dose one check injection timeing i think its ok but would be nice to know how to check just too be sure . nick
  20. looking gd rob u better be carefull tho or the north wales road safty partnership will be campaining for speed camara down your little lane i dont know if its the strait though egg and sauce but your meadows seems to get up and go a little better than mine still . when u get 5 mins could u take some pics of your injector pump and point out how it should be so i can compare it with mine . the only thing i have found is a small crack in the vaccume pipe that goes to the injector will have to get the solder out and sort it . nik
  21. looking good andy hope fully someday i will have floyd looking as gd as daisy not that i am jelous ........ much  nick
  22. u have been busy bernard i like the new boots how did the job go ??? nick
  23. no problem andy. well the symptoms date back to war and peace last year but not untill now realized wot it was .all the symtoms pointed to an air leak as sometimes floyd would struggle to make 120psi. but the unloader valve worked fine blowing off when it reached 120 psi . now the problem had got worse withe engine idleing it would make 65psi on the presure gauge reving engine up would then make the needle slowly creep round to 120 but as soon as engine was ideling again the pressure would slowly drop back down to 65 psi at this time floyd was a bit on the clean side after i had been running around with a spray bottle off fairy liquid looking for leaks in the air system . some small leaks found but nothing to make up for the loss of air that quickly . so built up air back to 120 shut it off and very quicky proceded to take off the main feed to the unloader only to find air leeking backwards throug the valve . so i decided after reading something on the net that it must be the one way valve inside the valve itself playing up and some how backfeeding the compressor cutting down its efficientcy . http://www.railcar.co.uk/bulletin/092.htm unloader valves http://www.railcar.co.uk/mechanical/controls/unloader.htm
