  1. very interesting reading that bernard the ones i have looked at on the floor today which i can see runnning if i wish . are non electric and have an external intercooler . i did not manage to get the cab up on the atkinson but it has a 250 hp cummins l10 which i can see running and then just have it choped so i end up with the usefull bits and no junk. but if i end if with the 250 i will just have to go to halfords and raid the fake numbers to badge it up as a 290 :angel: i was thinking that the hp output must be either down to size of turbo or something to do with pump ?
  2. well me and oldgun have been chaseing doner trucks and engines. didant come home with any thing as yet as we got messed about with the first truck we looked at . but have now found a l10 250 in an atkinson and many 290s and 325s which are sat on the floor. doser simply removeing the intercooler from a 325 make it a 290 ? and what makes the diffrerence between a 250 and 290. can a 250 be tweeked to a 290 ? sorry about the stupid questions nick
  3. work has not yet started on this project floyd has just been washed oiled up and wrapped up in his cacoon so the transformation can begin :cool2: will keep things up to date as possible on here most likely i will be seeking info and advice from many people as i want this to be the mutts nutts nick
  4. on the trail of the star autos diamond t i have found a few pics here http://www.star-auto.co.uk/content/gallery-recent-unusual-recoveries there is a gd pic of the T asistting one of alleys dafs with a load there is allso another t in pics wich seems to have a pionear crane inthe back never seen it before

  6. there not toys there working trucks belong to a recovery firm JACKSONS up on the a1 north of newcastle allways used ex MOD vehicals they still have a martian explorer and pioner aswell love that foden tho :bow:

  8. well the gd news rob is that now i have been successfully brainwashed on cummins power we can start on other people we mite start in the north wales area next for all those non belivers :-D any way i have a bigger problem at present my meds for scammellitis has been giveing me the strangest side affects i keep hearing the sound of a cummins jake brake in both ears :whistle: thanks for the b day wishes aswell :thumbsup:
  9. the one mike has or had was a petrol clive i am goin to upset a few people by removeing the meadows and go with the cummins option its not my fault i have been brainwashed by another forum member on the cummins l10 idea :nut:

  11. in deep snow its hard to see where the edge of the road is and before u know it your getting sucked off it and into the ditch was just comeing up the last hill in to Avon Dasset and was half way up the hill in 6 wheel drive and started spinning not gd when u have dolly trailer behind. back wards is not an option just made it up, serious visability problem allso had a rearly hard time getting the truck back in the yard aswell truck and trailer wouldant go up the hill so had to drop trailer off roll it back down the hill on the handbrake enough to get a run up with the truck after letting the tyers down a bit , and then had to winch the trailer up behind me . and another thing the back end likes to go its own direction. had a few funny looks as i was drifting the scammell round the islands but it was still fun :-D

  13. ahh well video well the problem with being a lone scammeller there is never anyone around to hold the bloody camara when u want too film something video footage would only dammage an explorers image as i was supprised they are not as gd on snow as i thought :shocked:
  14. well gents me and floyd have just got back in from two days out playing in the snow, which was an experience to say the least but a fun weekend out none the less . the head gasket is sadly not looking any better. i spent all day friday retorqueing the head and loaded up the cooling system with K SEAL but it has made little difference at the momment the truck pressureizeing the cooling system and burning more oil than usuall and i think that is down to the fact i can see combustion gasses bubbleing up in the rocker box so i guess thats where the oil is going . but i think even if i wanted to fix this engine i would have a hard time doing so with the problem of finding meadows parts. problem now is finding a nice donor vehical to give me an engine just a litte pic from the weekend scammelling in a winter wonderland :-D

  17. i would very much like to keep a british engine in my truck but i think it will be hard to find a gd one and there are not too many engines that will fit into a explorer with out a lot of chopping and cutting to get it in . i would like to keep my conversion so that i could easily put the meadows back into the truck if i ever wanted too or needed too . i spend a lot of time running behind Deputy in the c.s elis explorer 290 rolls royce and i just cant belive how well it goes nothing slows the thing down big horse power in an explorer is ok if u drive it properly and dont use all the power even tho its there and u will be fine
  18. ahh at last reinforcements have arrived back me up on the l10 front with some covering fire i had to go on the front incase i needed to winch u lot up with my shiny wheel scotches
  19. no i havent had time to investigate yet havent got a tester so will check in the rad it was bubbleing up from the head bolts with the rad cap off . i havent had a proper look at it yet will get him out and fired up on sunday and check it out happy slapping ? u will have to catch me first :cool2: i am still thinking wot is the best thing to do so i can get the most out of the truck the mileage i am doing and the mileage i want to do is not doing to do the meadows much gd i think if i keep the meadows it really needs to come out of the truck and be sorted properly. it leeks oil like its raining at the mo

  21. i dont rearly know yet a big problem is gritineye is a rearly bad influance on me and the noise of his cummins has warped my fragile little mind:nut: i would like to do something different tho i keep thinking about a 270hp CAT lump but i am not familuar with these engines i.e size length ? i do like a bit of pussy power tho:shocked: and i dont know of another explorer with a cat engine
  22. thanks richard will give it ago i have used k seal before with gd results never thort it would be any gd in this use tho will try it
