  1. Dodged the random rain showers today and painted the o/s of cab. Also started to remove the air horns. Hope to get the roof sanded & primered tomorrow.
  2. Managed a couple more hours on the o/s of cab Saturday morning before the rain started just as I was ready to paint! If the weather holds this coming Thursday & Friday I'm planning to finish prepping the cab and wiring in a new horn behind the front grill.
  3. Just remembered a video I took at Wicksteed of the Foden DROPS & FV432 couple years ago
  4. Hello Corbs, Thanks, I've never done any sanding before and only needed one for the cab, I'm also unlikely to be sanding any more vehicles anytime soon so opted for the Bosch sander below for £40 which came with 5 medium grit Velcro pads. I purchased 5 more for £5 too. I opted for mains power so I could work it all day. It took 3 pads to do the n/s and 3 for the front. Cuts through the old paint, rust and filler just fine. Regards,
  5. Cab front tackled today with help of Dad. Found coolant breather adrift so secured it. Also found O/S upper rad bracket not attached, the rad seemed very secure without it and when we tried to fit it back it wouldn't quite reach. That along with the N/S bracket missing leads us to believe they were no longer required, new rad design fitted perhaps. This bracket has now been removed and stowed. Tie wrap added & small valve cleaned next to rad too.
  6. Thanks for the info Garry. just did a quick google search and found images of the truck on this site ; http://flickrhivemind.net/flickr_hvmnd.cgi?method=GET&sorting=Interestingness&photo_type=250&page=1&noform=t&search_domain=Tags&photo_number=50&sort=Date%20Taken,%20new%20first&tag_mode=all&textinput=aec,militant&search_type=Tags&originput=aec,militant
  7. Hello Garry, great to see yet more photos, again. Strange that I haven't seen much evidence of the striking pink primer when taking off the old paint. Perhaps it changed over time and I didn't notice it. I have yet to retrofit the jerry can holder, oxy cabinet & boom lights. was the top coat DBG or OD? Looks different between the photos. Still unsure which colour to go with yet. Found this image of militants in service on Facebook. hopefully speak soon Regards
  8. I've taken advantage of the warm dry weather to start the cab with the aid of a Bosch sander. Today's efforts, more tomorrow...
  9. Hoping to get some more done week after next if the weather holds, in the meantime this appeared on Facebook - looks to be the same truck (Garry?)
  10. Telegraph version http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/11473825/Cut-traffic-jams-let-tanks-drive-at-40-mph-on-British-roads.html
  11. Various spots on the cab (slightly darker green if you can zoom in) and a new panel made & sprayed that sits under the grille under & across the radiator. Handbrake now works too, bit of welding near second axle. Investigated speedo inop but still cannot trace fault so fitted a gps speedo wired to the two pin plug on the dash for now. On the flat it happily sits at 49mph, saw 52 down a slight hill. Regards,
  12. [video=youtube_share;TfITmykD9yA] ]Retrieved the Militant from Leavesleys, Staffordshire this afternoon having had some welding, bodywork & mechanical repairs done, pleased with the result. Will try to upload a video of the journey home.
  13. Excellent Garry, thanks - really fills in the history for the vehicle in private ownership. Sorry I missed your call, I was at work and haven't been able to call back until just now but you must be busy working on your truck, I'll keep trying though. i wasn't aware Bovington did open days like that, the Mili looked very smart in your ownership and I hope it will look that way again soon Regards
  14. Hello Garry fantastic to hear from you - will PM you shortly. In the meantime here is the reg from the OSR before I needle scaled it. It was under the yellow reg plate someone else had subsequently added after painting over your reg with green paint. Can confirm the front one was still there under green paint too but neglected to get a close up before I took it back to metal. Regards,
  15. Can anyone point me towards a new one of these? Believed to be speedo relay
  16. Final wheel prepped today (NSF) along with anchor plates and OSF arch. Really hoping to get this to at least a couple of midlands shows.
  17. Hello, have a look here; http://www.kalimex.co.uk/our-products/quiksteel usually about £4+vat per tube, very strong stuff. Regards,
  18. Very atmospheric, like the silhouette of Trojan against the fire. Regards,
  19. What an excellent selection of vehicles, very smart Foden limber. Thanks for posting, Regards
  20. Finished the oxide on the wheel & started work on the hole ridden arches, some proper grime under there which I soaked with tar & glue spray before wiping the worst off with a rag & needle scaling. Used QuickSteel where appropriate on some of the holes.
  21. :-D I don't mind the top speed too much on the correct roads & conditions, almost feels like the truck drives itself once up there
  22. Even over took a slow moving car Iain, on a dual carriage way you understand
  23. Couple of hours this afternoon on the OSF wheel & underneath the arch, few holes to fill under there. Will need some tar&glue spray too to get rid of the grime
