  1. Book says 3 - 5 lbs g/box pressure at normal road speeds when hot, not a lot!
  2. For those who don't know just how good a Gamma Goat is, have a look here http://www.gamagoat.com/info_video.html scroll down to see films The film 'South East Asia Field Tests' shows it's amazing abilities well.
  3. Thanks Graham, always wondered what it's exact function was, mine spent later years with The Royal Aircraft Executive so it's a bit different here and there.
  4. Hi Robert, You might have to fit a wire cutter on the Jeep to get in the car park, some of the Explorer owners have started to rope off a large part of it for a playpen, they must think they're at W&P or GDSF! :-D
  5. Unforgivable behavior and work, how did they think they would get away with it? Especially as they knew you would be checking everything even closer after the last c*ck up!
  6. I think this has a lot to do with it, if we don't already know them, we all have a pretty good chance of meeting fellow members face to face at events and shows. Before joining HMVF I was getting a little bored with the show scene, my main interest being just owning an Explorer, this forum has re-kindled and widened my interests. As others have said it's all down to Jacks influence, the welcomes I got when I joined were so friendly and silly it took me by surprise. :-D
  7. Welcome Peter, I also have a BSA/Chorehorse generator, for no other reason than I just like it!
  8. Welcome to the forum, enjoy yourself here, we do.:-D Was it a white one? if so we may just know the reason for this behavior!
  9. In order to beat is uphill neighbors fine crop of leeks, Ephram decided to manually force his rhubarb!
  10. Graham, is this the type you are talking about? I don't think mine has any innards. I have the concentric type inter vehicle lead socket and a small two pin connector for accessories in the cab on the passenger side bulkhead. I plug my beacon in this with two split pins.
  11. I overheard a chap in the Scammell Register display trailer saying he had tried to buy the 4x4 from the lady who still owns it, but she will not sell, this was a couple of years ago, so it probably still exists.
  12. Back to their normal relaxed retardation mode, or am I just too gentle?
  13. I think Mike meant mixing radials and cross plies that way round, no doubt he will explain further.
  14. When Forcefuls second Meadows engine self destructed at W&P my mates Mack NO towed us home, with hoses coupled up as per double headed. Down the A21 there are some big hills and the whole lot really held back on the brakes very well I was surprised how good it all worked. When we got home I remarked on this only to be told "It was all done by your brakes with the reaction valve on the dash, you didn't expect me to wear mine out did you!" I have never had need to brake very hard whilst driving, and didn't know they were that good, but he had no mercy, maybe his pressure was a bit higher!
  15. The tyres were made in the US by Denman, still in business, but only list 900.16s tubless on thier site. I think a label said 1996, but can't check that without pulling them out. There must be more about somewhere.
  16. I forget where the seller came from Belgium, Holland or some such place. I got the impression he had more or could get them, they are new, still got stickers on them, had flaps as well when I paid for them, some of these were missing when I got back to pick them up! Some one who goes to W&P must know his name, he wasn't in the traders area, I think it was Americas field 2007
  17. They do look good, they are wider and fill the mudguards well, in my opinion. However, bar grips look 'correct' and I have been searching without success for years for a decent set as mine are quite brittle now with cracks appearing so may not last much longer. I found a set of new 14.00/12 ply at W&P for a good price, not really up to spec if I was intending to suspend tow to the max, which I'm not, it's the easy life for Forceful and I now. They are rated at 6410 lbs @ 50 psi, which gets me 12,820 lbs front, axle, (gross laden 9,720 lbs) = 3,060 lbs spare capacity 25,640 lbs rear bogie, (gross laden 20,160 lbs) = 5,480 lbs " " Total tyre capacity 38,460 gross laden - 29,880 lbs 8,580 lbs = 3.830 ton spare load capacity. There are two gross weights quoted in the book depending on the contract number. mine is 9870, not listed, so I have taken the highest figures to be on the safe side. So OK for my usage and should give a better ride, unless I am missing something. These tyres should be quite easy to find NOS.
  18. The New Inn was perfect, not many pubs with a yard like that attached nowadays, but you had to watch were you walked in the bar in case your foot went down a rotten hole!
  19. This is a euphoric moment in Explorer ownership which many never achieve, despite years of trying, the road to this milestone can be troublesome, worrying and expensive .:banghead:  You must be so chuffed, :yay: have a good show season Chris!
  20. Floyd is a shiney sort of chap ain't he Nick, I can't wait to get a propper look! Forceful says Hi
  21. Don't really know Richard, but the MOD had two for evaluation it seems. does this help? Photo courtesy of Brian Hartley
  22. Apparently not Richard, A Volvo type FD51 fully synchronized two speed reduction coupled to the main ZF type S5/18-3, 5 spd gearbox is quoted. Dosco acquired the rights to manufacture it and the rest was little changed from when it was a Volvo 4141
  23. Amazing coincidence, here's a link to more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Terrible
  24. Sorry Tony, it was meant in jest :red:
