  1. Looking at the part where you open her right up the port engine seems to shove out much more smoke in the turbo lag period than the starboard one, which would suggest to me that starboard governor needs tweeking, or else that turbo is spinning up faster, they both seem to run clear when up to speed. All that water makes it tricky to see much!
  2. This one took hours out of my life too, the answer is so simple you won't believe it! Assuming it is the same as an L10 fitted to an ERF. If the sender is a small cylinder with a couple of wires sticking out that looks like an old bicycle dynamo, that's just what it is, as the revs rise so does the current, this works to pull the rev counter needle round (dunno how!) Just run both wires to the rev counter and connect them up, if it doesn't work reverse the wires. no other power is needed.
  3. Tap is a good idea, I am thinking of putting taps in the water hoses to the rear axle heat exchanger soon as there is water dripping from it, it may just be a hose clip needs tightening but they're rusty. it would be nice to be able to isolate it just in case, they have been known to split or corrode through.
  4. Forcefuls horns are real Diesel Loco horns so won't work on a normal wimpy air horn valve as those are too small! :-D The air tank has a brass plug in the end by the unloader valve, I removed that and put in a airline fitting to take a 1/4 inch rubber hose to a blowgun trigger that worked fine untill it stuck full on when I meant to just toot! :stop: I next thing is to get new stuff to run the whole lot in proper stuff with a sensible valve.
  5. 5 is working now on youtube, sounds good
  6. Have a look and see if the serving gear is seized, the drive for it may be full of water. Try it by seeing if it moves in the free play between the gear and drum, don't slacken it off and move it out of sync without marking both first! :shake: Make sure it is not jammed against the bracket. If it hasn't been timed right this can happen sometimes. Are you all insured and ready to go now? It'll soon be showtime :yay:
  7. It would be more but a lot of them spiders can't spell Scammell correctly
  8. Hi Didz, welcome, plenty of MVs to choose from and help on here, enjoy looking around.
  9. Mavis got very tired of listening to Bertie constantly asking people to sign his petition for a new golf course!
  10. We're all fingers crossed here Robert, although Unless the balance is different it should be OK. Those pickup pipes are a b***er aren't they, nice to have help though!
  11. Count Me in CW and thanks, shame it may have to go though!
  12. Having spent many years trying to keep Forceful looking reasonable I have now settled for the 'as first seen at auction' look, which coming along nicely, it'll be perfect in a few years! :-D Although I have to admit a well presented parade look is splendid.
  13. try this way CW, play your video on Youtube, while it's running , find the URL under your description on the Youtube page Start a reply to your thread click the red Youtube button at the top right of the advanced reply window the words youtube will appear twice in brackets Click in the space between the middle brackets and paste the URL delete all the URL before and including the = sign, ie. as-rrJt22rI Post reply and test, should work. __________________
  14. Sorry CW, the youtube link I posted for some reason does not appear correctly when posted, this makes rubbish of the entire post so I will delete it, and try again.
  15. Interesting how different the more modern ones perform Swill, computer designed I expect! This is from the Retro site EFFECTIVENESS As the name suggests, a Hole is drilled through the sliding gate, the size of which is dependent upon the required exhaust back pressure at 10% over rated engine speed. In the case of a Cummins LI 0 this orifice size is 15.25mm which will give 65 psi. at 2300 Engine RPM.. at 200 RPM. the manifold pressure drops to 25 PSI. With the corresponding loss of retardation. This effect is more pronounced in the smaller engines and tends to render the Exhaust Brake largely ineffective at less than maximum engine speeds. I think the 200rpm may be a typo. I often hear the Jake Brake at low revs outside my house when big Yankee wreckers bring broken buses back the bus park nearby, had to laugh the other day when one driver was having such a good time he overshot the entrance, teach him! :-D
  16. Well young 6x6, it performed exactly as expected, from the top of a long fairly steep hill at 2400 rpm it held back enough to drop the revs to 1900 ish and would have held it there. I usually have to dab the brakes on this hill, I let it off then as that was around my cruising speed. The retardation was not massive but gently stopped any over revving, I don't usually rev that high, that was just a test. It has almost no effect at lower revs, but this was expected. it makes a great sound, but needs some red Hermetite in the flange joints as there is some air hissing out. I would think if towing a load in 5th gear it would be very effective due to the higher revs. I am very pleased with it for nothing spent, just have to buy a couple of propper air line fittings to do a propper job.:-D
  17. I do love that primered Scammell hot rod look Madrat, that would do for me, just needs a Cummins V8 with zoomies now! :-D
  18. Bet that ROPSEY got an earful when he got back without any pix of the ENGINES!!! :argh: I dunno if you want summat doin do it yerself!
  19. There is at least one heavy vehicle using this exemption on the show circuit, it is booked in every year to some sort of school event in order to comply.
  20. You are of course completely right in what you say Mike, I erroneously called it a Jake brake because I thought it was an early type made by Jacobs, it is I now find, a Retro exhaust brake. Unlike a Jake brake this is only really effective at high revs, which is just right in an Explorer when revving nearly in the red down a long steep hill and the brakes are having a rest! Good research is never wasted, sometimes a little embarrassing though! :-D Retro fitting Jake Brake kits are available on ebay!!!
  21. Spent a few hours yesterday fitting a Jake Brake to Forceful, 1/4" clearance under bonnet. Better clamp and road test tomorrow! :-D
