  1. Hi Mark, did you do the engine yourself or did you send it away ? for the stripdown. Ashley
  2. Hi all, I have had these along with being the sole survivor of a Colmbian buisnessman who whants me to have his millions as long as i hand over my bank details   just a shame he did not realise some of my immediate family live with in a five mile radius Ashley
  3. Hi all, i have a early 1945 GPW, which is painted a earth matt. I have the registration book (the buff colured type) which the colour of the vehicle as Kahki on the date of its registration 30/10/1959. Now is it the general opinion that this would have been the military colour it served /was stored in rather than the normal Bronze green of the post war years ??? Ashley
  4. Hi all, i usually try and take the jeep to work at least once a week, but this is not always possible. Usually over the christmas-January period i remove the battery to put on slow charge for as long as possible. Ashley
  5. Hi all, whilst cycling over local heath land the last couple of years i have found an ww2 ammo box for 25 pounder shells solid condition but a bit rusty, also a U.S jerry can but the type with the large lid and the white enammeled (sp?) interior which i belived was for water or food use ?? Many years ago when i was a keen detectorist in the late seventies i spent my holidays on the battle fields of europe both WW1 and WW2 but as most of what i found was rusty and had no real intrinsic value i gave it away to young collectors or school lads who couldn`t fund a collection. This included helmets, badges, medals, guns, etc On one dig alone in Verdun i found (on the surface) a stack of 30 stick grenades the wood handles had all rotted away but the metal was still fairly good i am sure i still have one somewhere. The explosive came out as a solid lump so all were fairly harmless. I will try and post a picture of the grenade sometime. Ashley
  6. Hi Dougy, i am sure that some of these will be a thing of the past ,hence Karoshi`s thread though the last two years i have been a day visitor i remember the shower block senario  So if your not too disappointed `come on down` lets make a meeting of it Ashley
  7. Hi all, hold till relived is right one year after a 5 hour drive in the jeep i set up camp (read 1 jeep and 1 tent) in about a 2 Heactre`s of grass only to be warned off by some fellow with a folding bicycle and a pup tent that i had taken his reserved space after talking to him in my best german (which is not that good) he mumbled about f***8%$%& forigners and camped about 10 meters away  Just had to remember to say "gute mogen" and "gute abend" depending on when i saw him.  Ashley
  8. Hi Karoshi, i belive that a lot of people have great misconceptions about the German army of WW2 in regards to equiptment etc, even as late as 1944/45 i belive i am right in saying that the greater proportionof the Whermacht transport system was still carried out by horses as can be seen in the pictures from the battlefield of the Falasie gap. Thinking back to my metal detecting days in this area though there was plenty of militaria to dig up the was certainly more bones (horse) mainly in the road side ditches. Ashley
  9. Hi Richard and all, i was asking for a friend of mine. I was luckily one day to buy one from Lidl its a Tronic H-3053 and does :- 2 volt. 6 volt and 12 volt lead battries can`t remember exactly the cost but it was between £5 to £10 and worked a treat ,because after little use last winter and same again this spring/early summer due to an illness i had it chargeing for approx 2 months and the jeep has never let me down since Ashley
  10. Hi Jack, as an M.V. enthusiast this is a " must " as far as shows go more vehicles, spare parts, or associated militaria than you can expect to pay for. I regulary attend to meet members of another forum (dare i admitt it  ) just for the pleasure, even to meet local friends that i rarely see due to pressure`s of modern life etc. Ashley
  11. Hi centurion, when the clucth pedal is pressed to the floor my 45 gpw gives off what i can describe best as a "rubbing" noise, this is also due to thrust bearing wear. This noise has been there for at least two years But as it no major problem i don`t see the point of carrying out the gearbox removal task as the vehicle is still fully operational. Ashley
  12. Hi all, lack of space limits me to having just the jeep in the garage, the daily transport sits outside. Ashley
  13. Hi Karoshi, definately put me down as a recruit Do bear in mind that most groups do not actually pay to get thier vehicles, displays on site so may be a call to rex if we are going under the banner as the HMVF may be a worth while tactic ?? if not for this year but future years. I will try and press gang some volunteers but some the local lads resent paying the entrance fee But there is one keen jeep owner and another friend has brought a Kuble (mind you it is still in bits) keen to get to some shows Ashley
  14. Hi bill that what sprung to mind i have just tried to post the pictures but failed (again) I will try and look through my magazines and see if theres any other ones mentioned. Glad to help Ashley
  15. Hi all, may be confused here the one i was thinking of was the Trailer 10 -cwt GS which i saw at the Yeovil show Bill if you get on to the M.V.T. website look in the articles link and for the above issue i am sure it is pictured there ?? Ashley
  16. Hi Karoshi, i am sure you will but are all members driving down ?? i`ve done this trip 5 times on my own and its quite a task I was hoping to trailer the jeep this year ,any thoughts Ashley
  17. Hi, this article was covered in SPRING 2004 ISSUE 102 of Windscreen Ashley
  18. Hi Tim, no gaurentee`s here but i belive he is a hampshire man so may be if your an M.V.T. member you could ask the area secretary to pass on your details to him. Just an idea. Ashley
  19. Well i dunnno Nat, looking at the picture of the pillbox i am sure i can see a facial expression and it is smiling/laughing Ashley
  20. Hi Steve, could be time to fit manual trafficators as found on British trucks (ww2)  Ashley
  21. Hi all, we still wore these in the cadet force whilst i was at school in the early `70 s, in fact all our gear was pre 1945. Also in the early eighties i was given almost 60 complete sets of British battle dress but noboddy wanted them as collectables ,so i gave them away one by one eventually ASHLEY
  22. Hi Steve, there used to be a section in the highway code book on hand signals but threr again it has been a bloody long time since i`ve read it Ashley ''PS as theres no stencilling on the rear of my canvas i retain the righ to improvise. Ashley
  23. Hi Nick, very nice looking battledress blouse, i am wondering if you have taken in to account that the waist measurments on these jackets apply to higher part of the body than what is recognised as a "waist" in modern speaking (here in the U.K. any way.) My problem is that i can never get a waist measurment to fit unless it is a very large jacket  Ashley
