  1. Great looking project, look forward to following your blog. It would appear that trucks of this era shared a lot of the same parts, at a quick glance the gearbox internals look identical to my Fordson and the ignition switch is also the same.
  2. Many thanks for all your help, I’ve managed to order front crank oil seal, manifold gaskets and fuel filter, oil filter is still a mystery as it’s much shorter that all the ones listed, there also appears to be 3 different fuel lift pumps, not entirely sure what the main differences are apart from glass sediment bowls, I will remove the blanking plate at the weekend and phone the tractor spares to see what the difference is.
  3. I’ve just cleaned it with a wire brush and yes it F29F So just to confirm it’s a 1961 , possibly industrial use, but if I look for parts I could quote Fordson Major to make life easier?
  4. I have considered an electric pump but thought I would stay mechanical if I could. Haven’t removed it yet, I am planning on tackling that job at the weekend, I just wanted the opinion of a few experts first and wanted to confirm what parts needed to be ordered.
  5. Thanks for the info, anything that makes finding parts easier is appreciated
  6. Does this help? The only reason I would like to move the fuel pump is because it’s very close to where the engine cover will go and it would make life easier if it was moved.
  7. Just a quick update, engine and gearbox are back in and sitting nicely on there new mounts, NOS clutch plate arrived on Saturday, eBay bargain £30. I will paint the engine institute Now I know there are a few 4d engine experts on this forum that should be able to answer a couple of questions regarding the fuel pump and engine number Can you move the fuel pump from here to here also can anyone workout the year of manufacture from the engine number? I need to replace the front oil seal and manifold gaskets but apparently they change from 1954 on.
  8. It’s hard to imagine that the vehicles we preserve today were once workhorses that were used in extreme conditions and driven like we would a modern day Ford Transit.
  9. If you really zoom in It looks like the same shape/emblem crossed, then again it is Friday night and it will probably look different a bit later🤪
  10. “ OMG I love this spray gun “ Purchased a new spray gun following advice from several forum members and what a difference, low pressure, easy to use and no wasted paint. Old spray gun soon to be recycled!! I wasn’t happy with the paint finish on the cab, it was a Matt finish and quite rough to touch, so I decided to flat it off and mix cellulose thinners with the synthetic paint, some of you will probably remember that I did this accidentally a couple of months ago and wasn't sure how it would react with the first coat of paint, so after letting the paint cure for a few weeks I tried a couple of testers of the cellulose mix, the finish was satin and smooth so just when I thought I was done with painting for a while I repainted the cab 😬
  11. Many thanks OzH, just waiting for a clutch cover to arrive and hopefully the engine and box can go back in this weekend.
  12. No it’s a short propshaft about 2ft.
  13. Standard Land Rover tool!! Don’t think I’ve seen a series Land Rover hub nut without a chisel mark.
  14. Thanks for the info, all help is appreciated 👍 However.... I may have solved the problem, while rained off site today I came up with a cunning plan🙄 or did I !! The old seal was well passed repair. After a quick rummage through the parts bin and salvaged a couple of parts from the original seal I ended up with these. The original seal was a D type double seal , internal seal to retain oil and external to prevent water and dirt ingress ( info and picture courtesy of oil seals uk ) Stripped the internals out and grind the edge off the seal , used one of the leather seals as a spacer and insert 2 Land Rover series hub seals bedded into silicone, refit the original outer casing and locking ring. New double seal created and gearbox back together 🤞it’s got 2 choices
  15. Thank you for the info👍 Yes I’ve been in contact with them and they’ve been very helpful, unfortunately they don’t have any stock of the seal but they are finding out a price for one to be made, the Payen number is D353 Just in case anyone has an obsolete collection of oil seal gathering dust😬
  16. Fantastic workmanship as always 👍
  17. I completely agree that the original leather seals do a good job but unfortunately this one has started to break up and no longer seals against the flange, I will explore Modern seals and see what fits.
  18. “ We got one !! “🎉🍻 Finally found a replacement gearbox for the wot 6, many thanks for everyone’s input and thank you super6 for the et6 parts list. The replacement gearbox is an et6 box which is identical apart from the clutch fork and output flange both of which were easily swapped from the original. Needed a good clean as it had 60+ years of diesel oil coating it. All shiny with very little wear and good bearings, the gearbox was courtesy of Gregg Shadbolt from the Early Ford V8 club, very helpful people if anyone needs anything in relation to Ford flathead V8’s. Advise needed!! the rear output shaft leather seal is quite worn and I have so far not been unable to locate one, my question, is it an actual oil seal or is it there to stop water and dirt ingress? Have a look at the pictures below, the front seal is an oil thrower and has a drain hole back into the gearbox but the rear doesn’t have any drain hole and neither did the wot6 box, so does oil actually pass the rear bearing?
  19. That’s spot on, I would never have thought of that 👍
  20. It’s amazing that these parts still exist.
  21. So.....not much happening at the moment but this arrived in the post today, it was spotted by super6 , nos rear gearbox mount Nice F mark seams a pity to remove the original label Slightly better condition than the previous one slight change of subject, I was clearing out a garage of a recently deceased family friend and came across a couple of tools that I can’t identify, any ideas?
  22. Fantastic barn/field finds, good luck with the restorations and keep the pictures coming. Seamus
  23. I feel your pain!! remove one rusty part just to find another rusty part 🤨 But it looks good👍
  24. I will add it to the list, many thanks
