  1. Hi Paul I would imagine it’s similar to when I registered my gpw, go on the dvla website and ordered a V55/5 form , get it insured and get it verified by MVT , not necessarily in that order.
  2. Is there no end to your talent for inventing stuff 😂 where there’s a will to succeed there’s definitely a way.. looking forward to the video👍
  3. Thanks for the advice, I will give that a go.
  4. Thin welding!!!! I love it 🤥 it’s all looking good though, I’ve never tried electrolysis but will definitely give it a go, the result looks really good.
  5. Slowly but surely...... Didn't get a chance to do much this week, play was interrupted by work!! just as I was getting used to semi retirement. Borrowed a new toy just to try something different Never used one before and had mixed results, most probably down to operator malfunction 🤔 unlike the mig which will blast through a small amount of surface rust the spot welder needs 100% clean contact, some welds where fine and others had a reassuring ping!! as the weld let go, definitely more practice needed. finished repairing one internal panel and started on a second.
  6. Fantastic looking project, keep the pictures coming.
  7. Thanks David, judging by the amount of previous repairs it was definitely rotten 40 years ago.
  8. Another day welding and grinding !! I reckon in six months or so I might get the hang of this welding malarkey🤔 Finally got the front body mounts all lined up and in position, measure twice and weld once and if you bugger that up just cut it off and start again... Body mounts welded in and inner wheel arch repaired, it’s a very fine line between cutting everything off and replacing it as it’s fairly knackered or repairing what’s already there, my personal opinion is if you replace everything then what’s original...but god I wish there were some repair panels available😬
  9. 50 Tons!!! Now that’s a big hammer. Thank you for the offer it’s very much appreciated, I will keep you posted on the progress.
  10. Had a busy day today making the front body mounts for the cab, the original mounts were virtually non existent and what was left was a patch work of previous repairs, in an ideal world and if money was no object I would have had a whole new cab fabricated but unfortunately my lotto numbers didn’t come up and like many of us at the moment I have a bit of time on my hands!! So....what do you do if you only have basic tools and no press ? get out the big hammers of course.. first job was to make new the new mounting plates, straight forward enough, cut from 2mm steel so should last another 76 years and extra drain holes cut in to prolong there life, I think the lack of drainage properly killed the originals. second job was to form a recess for the rubber mounts to sit in, not straight forward!! Ideally a press and blow torch would have done the trick but lacking in both items I only had a grinder, hammers, large socket and welder, picture are below showing the progress, there not the prettiest but there definitely strong and once fitted they won’t be seen. let me know what you think and any other ideas for fabricating the recess as both the rear mounts also need doing.
  11. Thanks Richard, I’ve looked at as many old photos and models that I could find and couldn’t see any spare wheel mount, perhaps they were only supplied with inner tubes and the tools to do a kerb side repair.
  12. Thanks Tom, there’s no mounting point anywhere to be seen on mine, could you please send some pictures when you get a chance, looks like I now need to find a spare wheel.
  13. Great stuff, thanks for the info.
  14. It’s a 1944 truck and my thoughts were to go with a factory finish which would appear to be the SCC15 olive drab for this year but I am open to suggestions, although not keen on the Mickey Mouse camouflage pattern.
  15. Question time.... Is the wot6 meant to have a spare wheel, if so where does it go? secondly, what it the correct body colour for 1944 truck? It’s currently faded olive drab with the allied star on the doors
  16. Hi Gobby any pictures of the truck? Regards Seamus
  17. So........most of us are familiar with the phrase “ 2 steps forward 1 step back “ the phrase was clearly intended for restoration projects!! 1, cut away the rusted body work you want to repair , one step forward! 2, find out the rusted panel just cut off was previously welded to another rusty panel🤨 , one step back 3, repair the second rusted panel , one step forward , now your back at 1, the first step forward🤔 But slowly making progress, removed what was left of the front body mounts and replaced a section of angle that supports the passenger floor pan, makes a nice change to welding a thick piece of steel. My best bit of welding ( not going to show you the rest ) Rusty angle support cut out what’s left of the passenger body mount
  18. Well......if your board.........my WOT6 still need a few minor repairs!!!🤔 wheel arches are looking good👍
  19. At last!!! One corner finished........apart from grinding.... filling.... sanding... sealing... painting... but we are moving forward and I still don’t like welding panel work🤨
  20. The tool list is getting bigger!!
  21. Quick update, progress today, ZERO!! Thought I had better give the neighbours a rest from cutting and grinding, however I did order a few new tools to make life easier. still looking for a gas supplier, the nearest hobbyweld stockiest is closed, hopefully get a response from another stockiest tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of the Easter weekend.
  22. It’s all looking good, how did you get on with the woven pad preparation wheel?
  23. Slow progress today, how long does it take to bend and shape sheet steel!! This however has been a real time saver, bought second hand for £35
  24. V5 states 1944 and it has a mix of 43-44 dated wheels ( not very accurate either )
  25. Morning everyone I know I asked this question earlier in the blog but didn’t get an answer, is there anyway of dating these trucks? I’ve been in contact with RLC and got its key card but I can’t find anymore information. Also still looking for a manual, 44-45 that might cover the machinery body.
