  1. Hmm, A friend runs a Landrover repair shop. Along the lines of "Toys R Us" I suggested he rename his business - Landrovers R U/S I had to run fast!
  2. Anyone else still waiting for overalls?
  3. It's winter time, now the sugar beet are lifted the rats venture in after anything chewable - wiring, canvas (especially new canvas), seat squabs, wouldn't be surprised if bar treads were on the menu too
  4. Heard back from Thetford Grammar School history man - they feel we have done as much as they would normally achieve, and not really that interested in using our man as a project. It seems they do "old boys" only. Oh well. Cannon fodder springs to mind. Will await further news from the Regimental museum. I am advised that copies of Trench Maps from WFA chap will take 10 days or so due to some difficulties with printing large files - they are write protected so cannot be copied. When these come I will consider getting hold of a CD if we need it (suppose it could go in the clubhouse library?), alternatively I could buy just the maps we need once you guys have studied them :dunno: Till then
  5. That's my neighbour - I was taking the photos from a high-lift access platform  Has someone been spiking the clubhouse drinks again?
  6.   You know he's going to have it anyway, you must have done a good marketing job. But the family deserve the jimmy :-) (sell the horse instead )
  7. Do you mean me? :-D      If you read my posting I think we are fighting on the same side here, and saying pretty much the same thing too :dunno: But having spent a considerable amount of recreational driving time doing frustrated battle with your generic "idiot rural car driver" whilst taking a (admittedly slightly wider than a WLF) mv for a regular quick pootle down narrow country lanes, I felt it was important to remind the old feller what a surprisingly nimble creature the jimmy can be - try parking a WLF outside my local rural post office when doing the paper run or squeezing into a carpark space at the farmers market. My main point is that, inevitably if you live off the beaten track, the larger the vehicle the less opportunity you have for finding an excuse to take it out for purely self-indulgent rides - that's why I keep my jimmy. The only thing that will make a WLF slightly less fun is other road users  But this point is probably lost on someone who does his weekly shopping in a 432
  8. Thats an original floor - the only thing I contributed in those views are the seat covers and gear lever gaiters! Got it from a friend who filled a hole in floor (red oxide bit) where a pto drive to generator came through at one time, super mechanicals but body needs a little work to be top drawer stuff. Good little runabout as it is. Sort of an ex Swiss Airforce 1949 CJ3A/WW2 bitza at present, but nobody seems to notice (or care).
  9. As the pics show, I was being a bit conservative with a 2" floor lift! Quite a big job but not too daunting.
  10. I can't give you the techy stuff like transmission model numbers, but the postwar CJ3s had a tougher transmission, part of the floor however would need to be slightly raised (2" or so) to accommodate it. I have a vaguely similar problem in contemplating putting all my CJ3A mechanicals into a MB repro tub, but it seems criminal to cut the floor........ If you want I can take a pic of the CJ3A floor and post it.
  11. Bridie, You've got to make him keep the jimmy in the family somehow. Why? 1. He won't realise how much he'll miss it till its gone, then it'll be too late 2. A WLF is not the best family vehicle - where are you all going to hang from (including dogs)? 3. A gmc is great fun to drive around narrow winding lanes, a WLF is not quite such fun here Wouldn't the best solution be for the family to try and accommodate a second truck, that way Jack gets to indulge in his obvious passion for real "muscle trucks", and you get to drive the screaming memie, so long as you're happy with a hand-me-down jimmy instead of a soft-top sports car () :banme:
  12. Welcome Paul, enjoy the mayhem. Well, I wonder sometimes if I might have been a lot better off sticking with models, currently musing over the vague idea of a model (in 1 / 1 scale) of a WW1 tank  Probably won't come to anything, but it's nice to dream    :yawn2:
  13. Interesting, thanks for that. Just strange to think that so many old steel structures are still OK, so I'm guessing that armour plate generally does not age that well - something to do with the alloy mix?
  14. Page 20 of December's Old Glory carries an ominous report - It says that the last fully operational WW1 tank, a Mark V, was run for possibly the very last time on Nov 8th, as it was driven out from it's place in the Tank Museum, Bovington, and onto a low loader for transit to the Lord Mayor's show in London. It does not explain why this might be the final run, but if it is true can anyone enlighten us as to why? I cannot understand why it would not be possible to keep operational and on occasion, demonstrate, such an important relic :dunno:
  15. I'm sure my mobile phone could run rings around that lot of hardware (that in the time you've taken to post the info is now probably obselete ) - trouble is I can't work out how to use 99.9% of its functionality :-D So are you saying Collosus didn't stand a chance?
  16. Looking at these pics, the task of pulling a Ward laFrance bogie out from underneath without the truck collapsing seems a much more straightforward job  Loved the slave wheels!!
  17. Don't forget abn jimmy, this isn't the USA, if that can was full of petrol it would be about the market price  :-D
  18. That looks like a seal or gaiter pressed steel cover flange, and that looks like expanding foam that has expanded a bit too far and blown through... :dunno:
  19. Type as normal. Then highlight the bit you want large (should go blue background) and hit the key 2nd from right on top row (A with arrow beside it, to left of red A). This should bring up a block with "10" in it. click on this, backspace and type in say 16 instead of 10. This should give you something this size. ;-) Wow - no flies on these mods :-D
  20. For crying out loud officer, how many times do I have to tell you - "It's NOT a repro, it's a DEACT...."
  21. Most probably not  but if by chance I do, I'd better make sure I bring something which won't get stuck :-D either that or several miles of extra wire rope for self - recovery  Keep busy with them spanners!
  22. :what: I've just looked at this Mark and am absolutely horrified - it looks like someone has been posting things on the forum using my identity :schocked: I did not know it was possible, and rest assured I will of course report this to the mods rightaway
  23. It's a fairly small file to fit on the forum - if it could be emailed, we could receive a much larger file with 10 times the detail??? Tony - PM'd you my email address in grateful anticipation :-D
