  1. Trouble being Mike, with the price of fuel you'd have to mortgage the house, and sell the cat into slavery to buy enough to get to the shop. :-(
  2. Thanks Simon. I was hoping there was another way. The 101 Ambulance is a 9 foot by 14 foot by 7 foot brick. Large areas. :shake: It has also been subject to the Army broom and bucket paint routine. She served in Germany , First Gulf and Bosnia, last painted 1999 by hand so looking a bit tierd. One reason for stripping is at 8/9 mile to the gallon every pound helps. :-(
  3. 7.5 tons GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) can be taxed PLG at £165. They do need a plate not an MOT. Trouble is allowing for greatest weight of carrier at 4 tons, that only allows 3.5 tons for the rest of the vehicle, might be pushing it.Check your licence, it may be better to go the trailer way as you are allowed a train weight of 8.25 tons. Its C1+ E catergory.
  4. Thankfully job now done, till the next time. :banghead: Plenty of yellow connectore and take the infra red attachment out. New ignition switch, new coloum stalk and re make the fuel pump earth. Next time the flamethrower.
  5. Canadia Scottish and I would be hounoured to lay a wreath on behalf of the Forum, should the moderators agree.
  6. Bloody hell Mate!! Talk about hostage to fortune. You'll get your own slot. First question. Hoe's the best wat to get 20 plus layers of paint of a 101 ambulance?Tony
  7. If there that bad any sensible horse would have dropped them hard a long time before they got there. Trouble is all thses services are now hired out. Look at how many recovery vehicles show, AA, RAC and Greenflag. Dear Santa.. A big bonneted Scania and a 40 foot breack back 40 trailer.
  8. Thanks Snapper, I must say I think 'Tommy', has to be the definitive book. It's odd reading things like 'The guns of August' and comparing it to more modern books to see how attitudes change. A teacher told me some time ago they don't know any history teacher who dosen't introduce the subject of the Great War without a clip from Black adder. I must say it took some time to prise me off the ceiling. The same with the Occupation of the Channel Islands, as I heard it from the people who were there, good and bad, it does make me wonder what happens to Facts. I prefer to find the scource documents and try to think in the social/political terms of the times. Not easy.
  9. Hang on, why buy a DUKW and not take it out in the rain? Might it get wet? Still with this summer it is a good choice. Vist the Medway, before it visits you. Thames River Authority do actually licence DUKWS. You get the lock pass and everything. It has to have a name though, which must be displayed.
  10. Hey Snapper, Makes a lot of sense. Being from Jersey my intrest , because of the Occupation, has always been WW2. It was last year with the 10th Essex reenactments and Andrew Robertshaw at The Somme opened my eyes. Have you read Pat Barker's book Regeneration? One of a trilogy dealing with the time of and just after the Great War. It is based on Sassoon's time at Craiglockhart Mental asylum.
  11. At least you don't call it 'Last Chariots Hotel' :-D Must know the rock.
  12. So are you all telling me that you have not had that feeling ' Whose wheel has just overtaken.....'
  13. Congrats. Just keep her running. As long as she gets you home that's the main thing.
  14. I thank you and for next trick I WILL re wire the 101. Does anyone else wonder where reliability and user freiendlyness has gone? Anything on the dodge I can fix. To change the headlight bulb on an Audi, the owner's manual says'Go to main dealear'
  15. I've heard this. But how do is count with the Dodge, Jeeps or Land Rovers towing trailers? Also what about the Quads? The limber and gun are trailers. I tow both my Tax exempt 109 to and from shows, also horse boxes and the sankey.
  16. Hey Nigel, you should join Friends of the Island, no cost. http://www.friendsofjerseytourism.com/ ian had the St Peter's hotel bunker, but it kept flooding, hence the move. I hear he's sold the Command Car to Richard Le Brocq. Did you know the St Peter's Hotel had a quad 20mm mount on the roof?
  17. Hi Mick, nice to meet a fellow sufferer. Oh you know the fun of some idiot getting to close and trying to overtake when you leave the stop? Especially when you know where the traffic islands are  Not managed it yet but had a few close.
  18. Yes, we are going to based near Essex Farm. There is also an invitation to do Gaurd of Honour at the Menin gate. The Cloth hall has a Routemaster bus called 'Young Bill' I'm typed on them so hope to get a paly. We also have the Daimler 3 ton subsidy truck going. I consider myself very lucky to be participate. I will get a picture of the dodge going through the Menin Gate. Funny thing is Sasson's poem, I died in hell they called it Passendale'- he never served in the Salient.
  19. Yes JJ it does, I did work for MOD, decided to do something a lot diffrent, and am now one of the most hated people on the road.. A Bus Deriver.. :shake:
  20. Dear Rick, after driving and trying to keep C8s running, the use of the cushion is to bury the head under. After British WW2 vehicles you know why you own a Dodge.
  21. Nice to know an insurance company will listen and sort a problem out satisfactorily. Well, they did come through. Sorry it happened Jack, but at least now it is at the 'worth a few beers story' time.
  22. I must say, not knowing your company, I'm happy with Roadsure, trouble is they don't cover Normal. so my Volvo has to be with someone else, mention no names, yo ho ho, Polly wants a cracker. Talk about a bunch of head bangers. The forum is to short for theproblems. if it wasn't for a dent, not my fault, in the front of my car it would be a farce :argh: :banghead:
  23. Hi Sean, hows the Emerald Isle? Disco's have so many variation of wheels and studs, I wouldn't buy unseen.
  24. The towing weights should be in the manual surely? With ordinary cars it's kerb weight maximum, unless declared by manufacturer as towing vehicle. I know some contractors get round the rules by towing heavy kit with a 'Tractor', but that is pushing things. I like the idea of a break back trailer . I've seen one artic unit that is used for recovery of artics or buses. 3 axles that move up the trailer to lower it, I nearly drowned in drool. And it had a big bonneted Scania on the front. Dear Santa....
