  1. the image is from a Sterling catalogue/Brochure as the BFA is black rather than yellow. The Blanks were German, they came in the standard cardboard box with a white label and a blue stripe. The gun itself maybe one of the old stock of casings that Sterling bought back from the MOD at Donnington which were made for the Indians(?) and the contract was cancelled. They were all crinkle finish which is why you will see newer, crinkle finish stocks on British issue guns. Who knows? Hope this is of interest
  2. Here you go. I'm sure I saw them in the late '80's on exercise (painted bright yellow) but it was a long time ago and my memory is nothing like it was. :-(
  3. The badge looked like this. http://www.barnesfamilyhistory.org.uk/images/firstworldwar/imperial_service_badge.jpg
  4. I've been given an open but complete 24hr GS from 1995 if anyone wants it, it's no longer edible but may be of use in a display. Beans and bacon, menu A. All the packaging is intact just no longer edible. This is the green foil packs for the biscuits and oatmeal block type.
  5. Another viewpoint: https://www.facebook.com/groups/snatchlandrover/ Scroll down for relevant post,,,
  6. Only nine episodes (of 13) were made because of disagreements between creator /writer Wilfred Greatorex and Yorkshire TV. A proposed second series was scrapped. The C47A (DC3) used in the program (G-BHUB) is now repainted and hanging from the roof of the American Air Museum at Duxford.
  7. Does anyone know what the actual identity of this vehicle is? 01CC69 is alive and well. she lives in Norfolk now. She also has the data plate in the hull that confirms that identity. we know that she was active in Cyprus so this would have been a sister vehicle.
  8. Thanks for your reply, It was a good friendly show and it would be nice to return to it.:-D
  9. Does anyone know if there are any plans to reintroduce the June military vehicle day?
  10. Hi, Please can someone tell me what the UIN was for the sadly long gone RAF Cottesmore, time frame late 80's (ie, when I was there!!) in the days of the TTTE (Thomas the thank engine or Tri-national tornado establishment as the mood grabbed you) Thanks in advance Guy
  11. Nope, that's a 20 round SLR mag. FN modified a FAL in the 80's to fit a AR mag and it looked 'unique'. :wow:
  12. Correct, the issue is that while my 110 1987 defender is a PLG, it's also registered as a 4x4 utility which means LEZ charges apply. Very frustrating, especially as if it was a V8 petrol, it would be exempt.... (yes, I have checked the LEZ website as well, just in case)
  13. I would love to go as I was stationed there in the 90's but the LEZ puts it beyond reach. Thanks very much, Boris & TFL.
  14. I really enjoyed Duxford and seeing the variety on offer, It seems to me that the basics are: I want to bring my truck. I want see other peoples trucks I don't want to pay full whack to do this as I'm already paying to bring my truck. I imagine the public want to see them too. A decent cafe that I don't have to get a mortgage for a cup of tea. Some where to dispose of cup of tea two hours later... If Duxford is not an option, North Weald? Cambridge airport? somewhere else close by? Just thinking/typing out loud. There must be a solution and I wish the DAS well, they have always been very helpful in the past.
  15. Hi, Nothing different, all the L9 were Belgian made and puchased in two big batches starting in 1967. The reality of service life was that the parts from these two batches were mixed up in servicing and overhaul , (we were happy if it worked and cared not for aesthetics) so the chances of finding a 'pure' L9 are slim. There were variations of hammers and grips for example, depending what came out of the packet in stores. Enjoy your gift, in almost every respect it's an L9.
  16. Hi, Norfolk Tank Museum at Forncet St Peter in Norfolk have an L5 howitzer. It's virtually complete but we need a firing pin for it (yes, we do have the appropriate paperwork for this!!) Anybody got one for sale? the prospect of firing blanks is very attractive! http://norfolktankmuseum.co.uk/
  17. This news is most unwelcome, it was one of my favourite shows. Are there any alternatives? My belief is that the money generated by this show provided the funds to keep the runners at IWM, well, running. If that's accurate, what happens now? :-(
  18. Holly was very helpful but she couldn't give me a price anywhere near the £137 FJ want as I take it to work occasionally, I have breakdown cover and the annual mileage was quite high, all of which is included with FJ. Maybe next year......
  19. Nice as your CVR(T) is, would that bus be RT604 (HLX421) parked next to it in the shed? It's another example of glorious British engineering dating from July 1948:-D
  20. For a little more information and to answer a question raised on the articles comments section, the German pilot, Helmut Eberspächer was born on 18th of Novenmber 1915 in Tübingen. In 1934 he volunteered for the Army , serving in an armoured reconnaissance battalion. Later he studied mechanical engineering and in 1939 he transferred to the Luftwaffe. He served with KG51, NSGr. 20 and SKG 10. He survived the war as a Captain and joined his cousins Dr Richard and Walter Eberspacher in the family business making, among other things, the night heater that still bears their name today. He died in Germany on 19th June 2011 aged 95.
  21. Finally got around to doing the intros! My Name is Guy and I am the proud/frustrated/skint second owner of 1985 110GS, the first owner being the Army! Any officers here that survived Leighton House may well have used it! We live near the Norfolk/Suffolk Border and I drive her as much as I can. I'm also very interested in the Sterling SMG partly because of carrying on issue and partly because of the design. I plan on 'doing' Duxford this year if anyone is going or has gone before, what's the drill?
