  1. Have you tried Banisters ? Search some of the threads for more info. He's usually pretty good. I thought the engine was VW derived so maybe VW parts dealer..? Good luck
  2. Yep felt like it to me too... Amazing how many vehicles seem to have served with 17/21 - seem to be the modern day equivalent of 101st Airborne ! Guess the motto has a certain appeal and there doesn't seem to be much choice in regimental markings these days. Thanks for very informative response as ever..
  3. Yep and one of these days I'll get round to requesting it...! I think the sight cowl might have come off a different vehicle, but it would still of course be a striker since not used on any other variants.
  4. Clansman thread has got me thinking - my striker has 17/21 sticker on the cowl cover... I always thought 17/21 used MBT's, or at least only had a few cvrt in very early days...? Anybody know if this could be real or is it a 'walt' addition ? Ta
  5. I have been thinking about posting a similar question to this myself for some time but haven't as I was afraid the answer might be something like this ie just about anything could be possible ! In simple terms though the most simple set up would be a VRC353, although it sounds like this could well be augmented with a 321 or a PRC type set, BUT.... I've seen a few vehicles with two VRC353's fitted side by side - would this really have happened and what purpose would it serve...? Cheers !
  6. Apologies just checked some other threads and they're quoting 4 Scorps, 4 Scimitars and 1 sammy, but of course they may be no more correct than me...!
  7. 2 Scorpions, 2 Scimitars, 1 Samson Plus a number of other CVRTs reportedly went down with Atlantic Conveyor - must have been a big ship that one !! If I remember rightly one of the Scorps was disabled by anti personnel mines, no crew injuries.. Cheers

Now I get it - as the old saying goes am army marches on it's strawberry jam....!

    W&P purchases

Forgive my ignorance but what the h*ll is a suive. I do like the large spoon with holes in though...!

Yep that's the one. There is still one crew member from LBG missing in the desert. If you have a look at some of the various sites dedicated to this story, you'll also see that the wreckage is still held by the Libyan authorities and can be viewed on google earth. It does seem to get moved from time to time.

    W&P purchases

Almost bought a Leyland DROPS as I think they look awesome and would look especially so with a cvrt on the back.. However, I changed my mind and instead bought.... 2 pairs of ear defenders (2.99 each !) and a desert camo sun hat (4.99 and came in v useful) Cheers

Has also reminded me that somewhere I have a book on Transport Command describing wartime crash in the desert and diary extracts from pilot who survived for a few days/ weeks... Unbelievably poignant. RIP.... If I can find it I'll post some details.
  13. OK I just got back but this isn't a show review thread so without going into too much detail, the standard of the vehicles was amazing (4 dragon wagons in convoy - how many shows have that ?!). If I'd gone as a member of the public it would have cost me £140 which would not have been worth it, but I didn't so it was OK. Personally I agree with all the stuff about paying to enter shows but I'll probably go back next year with a vehicle or two, but will only make an exception for this one show.. Having got round most of it in the one day, seen some stuff in the arena, visited a few stalls and then had a five hour drive home I'm now going to nurse my aching feet and go to sleep..

http://www.ladybegood.com Fascinating and poignant story - have a very vague recollection of seeing the film 'sole survivor' starring William Shatner when I was a kid, but hadn't realised it was loosely based on a true story. Would love to see it again...
  15. Erm...ahem At this point I have to confess I am still going (although there is no way I'm paying £140 for one night). Way I figure it I simply have to go at least once....
  16. And £140 for me and my 6 year old to camp for 1 night ! Yep people are indeed greedy but somebody will pay it.
  17. I still enjoyed it although I know what you mean.. On my special edition Bat of Brit DVD there is a period documentary, made at sime time as film, which is really quite entertaining, esp the bit where apparently Adolf Galland tried to suggest to the filmmakers that maybe not all of the german aircrew were diehard nazis who deserved everything they got - he got pretty short shrift of course ! Hadn't realised until recently that the Buchons used in the film were Merlin engined - sort of Messerspit I suppose, or maybe Spitterschmitt...! Also recently enjoyed Bridge Too Far after a long time away - now when it comes to inaccurate MV's that one is a treat...
  18. As a post war owner I always thought of WW2 armour ownership as a slightly elitist activity - people like adrian have opened my eyes somewhat. I suspect that although the astronomical prices you see can be offputting there are probably quite a lot more vehicles that change hands between people who know each other for a lot less. Like a lot of niche activities I suspect it all gets a lot easier when you've actually got into it and know a few people. I've finally collected enough bits and bobs to start swapping for the interesting bits I want and this is really satisfying.
  19. Nice one... Good to see another example of gods own military vehicle, the CVRT, in safe hands..! Didn't know Dinky did one though, will have to keep an eye out for one. Cheers

    Rapier

Blimey Dan no stopping you is there !!! Don't come up that often but there are one or two out there, think I've certainly seen two for sale in last 2-3 years. From what I remember they were reasonable examples and asking prices were £9-£10K ish... Cheers...
  21. Apparently one trick in service was to chop the heads off the bolts and glue them in place on the decking, only leaving four actual bolts, one on each corner. Made it easier when you had the inevitable breakdown. Don't know how true this is, but I'm sure someone will comment.... Sorry Dan can't help with bolt sizes although have the illustrated parts list at home so will look tonight if Chris can't find... Cheers
  22. All seems a bit of a damp squib and I don't see much point putting these to auction with high reserves. At the end of the day I just don't think the market is that big. Remember this isn't really a private collection going under the hammer but a dealer trying to get rid of their stock all in one go. These vehicles have nearly all been for sale (in some cases for years) on the Select website so not sure where they thought all the buyers would suddenly appear from...

    new toy...

Looking at the list of current toys I'm not surprised it doesn't fit any categories !!! Looking forward to hearing about it... Cheers
  24. Won't be bidding myself but very interested to know what stuff goes for - does anybody know if they are likely to publish prices after the event - I know Withams usually do this ? Top price must surely go to Sexton. Not sure about some of the other stuff though esp seem to be lots of post war vehicles around at the moment. 3 or 4 years ago I'm sure the 432's and the like would have fetched a lot more..
