  1. Probably the same as for Saladin but for conventional fluid.
  2. Can anyone suggest a company willing to manufacture Brake seals for my Daimler Armoured Car?
  3. Beware of the colour of some foreign jerkins as chocolate brown is not a British army colour.
  4. Just trying to delete this as I have put it in the wrong place under Blogs but can't see how. If a Mod wants to do it or move it please carry on.
  5. I am installing an Oil Pressure Gauge on my Daimler Armoured Car and need a source for the correct copper pile and fittings. Can anyone suggest a source please. Also still looking for a couple or more of these 11:00 X 20 Avon Track grip Tyres to match the existing.
  6. The flexi exhausts and watering can rose type silencers are like rocking horse poo so you will need to make your own.
  7. I prefer to modify Ammo Boots rather than wear post-war DMS Boots. I have rubber heels fitted to my ammo boots and rubber soles stuck on.
  8. Reproduction helmets were for sale on e-bay. Unless you have a very small head you are unlikely to find an original.
  9. As others have said it is supply and demand, the value some owners are now putting on their vehicles and desirability of the product being sold. A good example is the UK Carrier market which has seen prices go through the roof recently resulting in a large number of vehicles in varying condition coming on to the market all being valued by their owners at the same price. This has included T16's which have never attracted the value of Universals because they only saw limited use with the Canadians reducing their desriabilty. Not surprisingly the vehicles are not selling at the prices demanded. I owned a very nice Saladin as well which I could not sell due to the limited market and I ended up selling to Withams.
  10. Looking for the following components (high-light pink) to complete the 2 Pounder in my DAC. I have the appropriate Licence if required.
  11. The latest these could have been manufactured are the 1960's which was why I was little concerned. Some of the master cylinder seals cannot now be manufactured so I will have to use a subsitute cylinder.
  12. Does anyone have any view's on using NOS Brake Hoses and Seals? Are they likely to perform as well as when new with current fluids?
  13. If you still have the screened plug leads fitted you will need SR14 Spark Plugs like these which are now hard to find. One of the more modern FFR applications with the correct reach should suffice. http://gsparkplug.com/1x-lodge-spark-plug-sr14.html
  14. I would suggest also looking at the boots, coveralls and the beret one man is wearing possibly Canadians. The guys on the MLUP Forum may be able to confirm.
  15. I can't date them but I assume if they are not already out of service they are about to be. The ACF have been promised a large quanity of binoculars currently being replaced by a new model in the army. I have yet to see any but they could be the old Avimo. Ths model is or was still in production in eastern europe. I have a pair of these.
  16. The prices being asked have recently gone through the roof based on as usual probably a relatively few number of sales where rich individuals have been willing to pay the price. This has made restoring vehicles which previously would not have been attempted financially viable. As with all vehicles if you are paying a top price you need to ensure it is mechanically sound including the running gear, and as complete as possible. All Carriers especially Mk11's have numerous stowage brackets and boxes which to have fabricate to a good standard will cost you thousands. These were all normally junked during post-war use. There are plenty of Carriers out there with repro armour and or basically empty hulls with none of the stowage and high prices are still being asked. As always buy the best one you can for the money and a lot of the current highest prices are fantasy.
  17. I brought one for my Carrier within the last 6 months. Just googled Optima Batteries and had it delivered.
  18. I knew it was John something. Can you send me his contact details please if he does not have a web site.
  19. Can anyone confirm please the contact details of the dealer at the last Malvern who sells Gaskets and other small spares such as carburetors for British vehicles.
  20. I seem to remember one going through the Bristol Car Auction sales during the 1980's. At the time the MOD were selling through civilian car auctions. From memory it was in very good condition.
  21. They have no keys or locks left. I brought my Daimler from them.
  22. Tim I may well take you up on your offer. I am assuming that they are probably all the same. See if anyone else has any comments.
  23. Does any a have a key for the door of a Daimler Armoured Car for sale or can post a pictire of the cut out's on the key. Alternatively how does the lock assembly come apart. Does the knob unscrew to allow the plate to come off?
  24. Not hugely in demand as other than for trials they saw very little use, unless others have found new evidence.
  25. I would say that they were not successful. They were basically a maid of all work but master of none. They offered minimal armour protection, had limited space inside and if you read any war-time regimental history once the tracks had about 500 miles on they were very prone to breaking. The engines and transmissions must have also been very stressed with limited lives especially once they started using them as gun towers and or over loaded them. Up to an equivalent wheeled vehicle they were expensive to build and maintain in the field. They were a pre-war design which just became self perpetuating because there was a perceived role with no immediate replacement. In most roles they disappeared rapidly after the war.
