  1. I will be steering away from muddy puddles in future - I blame Vince when he took it for a spin. Your absence has been noted Grasshopper. :-D Markheliops I see you have what we lovingly refer to at work as a "teletubby suit". What an attractive garment. You end up as wet on the inside (stinky man sweat) as you do on the outside! We use them when we jet wash the underside of a 4 coach train. Now THAT takes some doing. 4 coaches underneath then 8 sides.... By the way i accept no responsibilty for any mud on your vehicle. I blame my missus for any mud on your seats though (i was wearing my best new carpet slippers ).
  2. Glad its not just us then!!!
  3. This will also apply to the tender vehicles used to transport the older ones. This will probably mean quite a few vehicles will now not be able to partake in the HCVS London to Brighton run due to them or their transporters incurring the cost.
  4. We too heard this. £1,000,000 was the price quoted.
  5. Nearly right. Just like our CVRT.... :banghead:
  6. b I am available all of that weekend if required (from Friday afternoon).
  7. As if you didn't have enough to keep you occupied at the moment.........Thanks for letting me have a play. :-D
  8. How about this (as a another topic of soft furnishings)? One way of moving our sofa!
  9. It was one of ours that we gave to Andy Baker of the AFVS to re-condition, so no, you didn't miss out on one in the trade.
  10. Group 3, *2 is me (Vince) and *3 is Karl Joynes.
  11. I went to Beltring with a shopping list AND a budget. Managed to only get the things on my list (tent pegs, trailer tyre and a hat) and not overspend..........Except for a re-con TN28 gearbox for our Spartan that turned up (thanks for the financial assistance Mike).
  12. Thats me with wearing shorts to thr right of the pink cushion. Karl Joynes is to me right with the dodgy robe (do not buy any camels from this man). I was driving the sand coloured Spartan.
  13. Only 1 day to go till we ship out to Beltring, and me 'n' Mike finally managed to get our Spartan engine insatalled and running at close of play yesterday (a well spent sick day....). Now just got to see if the newly transplanted gearbox works..... Its been a complete mission including re-timing the valve gear (twice) and towing our other Spartan (complete with sofa) to the other yard. More pics and story to follow when i get time (probably after Beltring!!!).
  14. Hi Mark, just back from holidays (and other things...) and looks like you had a real nightmare. Remembering the state that your front prop shaft was when you got the truck, i cant help thinking that the damage may have been caused by your truck being in 6 wheel drive for years (remembering that there was no link between your lever and transfer box). See you at W&P. Vince
  15. Saw this "bloke on a rope" last night at Kemble (think it was Militant Graham). I thought it was supposed to be for the kids to play with.... Had a great time and it was nice to meet some forum members. See you guys at Beltring. Special thanks to Jim for letting me sit in his Sherman. Another wish to tick off the list!
  16. May I suggest anbody interested could meet at mine and Mike camp? We have a very large gazebo, a sofa and several comfy chairs. Also maybe some beer/tea and cakes. Just look for the famous WLF and MUTT and the sofa is never far away. 5pm friday?
  17. Easier to dieselise it. You get the ability to go up hills too. The continental engine really is underpowered for the truck. Mike took his governeres out and it still struggled. Thats (one of) the reasons he fitted the diesel.
  18. We won't mention somebody (who's identity shall remain anonymous) who suffered from low oil pressure in his WLF due to a lack of oil. This was AFTER many components and pipes had been changed and checked.
  19. Scrap them! Scrap them all! Makes those that are left more valuale....
  20. There should be no play in the UJs or the drive flanges. This could be the cause of a knocking noise. Transmission noise is sometimes only present either when under load or when decelerating. This can be confirmed by removing the front prop shaft and going for a drive, but i wouldn't advise that until you are sure that the problem is not the engine. It is not difficult to rebuild propshafts. You can also have it balanced while it is off. Marks WLF had a really bad vibration (as did Mikes) and removing the front propshaft cured this. This should not be a problem as long as you are not planning on going off roading- mind you that would get youir nice pink paint job dirty so why would you....
  21. I have the answer gentleman. Jack could use the famous pink cushion to mop up the brke fluid, then place it on the engine to deaden the knocking noise. No leak, no noise, no worries. :-)
  22. Surprised Jacks not into SAS landies yet....PINKIES!!!
  23. Its a good feeling when you finish a days hobbying and you have achieved something. Thats one of the pleasures of playiong with MVs. Not always the case, like spending nearly three hours trying to cajole a siezed brake shoe off its pivot on the WLF the other day. :argh:
  24. If you are going to go down this road, re-fit the spark plugs, and with the nuts on (just above the surface of the head) spin the engine on the starter. The compresson may force the head up against the nuts. I wouldn't recommend trying to fire up the engine. It could get very messy if you suddenly had hot gasses shooting out from between the head and block.
  25. :wave:Hi everyone. I know a lot of you guys and gals were out and about at shows and events this weekend. What wierd and wonderful MVs did anyone get to ride in? (yours or otherwise). I got a footplate ride on a War Department Auesterity steam locomotive. I also managed to sneak this on works time....
