  1. hi. i am lucky in that i bought one from a friend and he included all conectors. the 't' piece is made from standard plastic waste pipe and solvent welded unions. 3x 't's,2x straght connectors, 4x blanking bungs and 4x brass hosepipe taps. the turn couplings are readly available at fire service shows. 1 't' centre on bowser, 1 't' either side pointing straight out with blank bung each with tap, then a straight connector, bung and tap each end.
  2. hi, thanks for reply, i would be very happy if you could help me. saw a picture of my truck in classic military vehicles last year, but was too small to make out.
  3. hi, i understand what you mean, if the pump gear doesnt come out, then i usualy pressurize the system by the oil pressure takeoff in block, ensuring that oil appears at the rockers. let this settle and then turnover engine, lightly oiling the bores through the plug holes, then if the oil appears to be flowing, its time for a start, there are 2 thoughts on assembling engines. 1 is to oil everything too excess, and 1 is to assemble dry, this is dependant on preference. in imaculate conditions then oil everything. if theres any chance of airbourne contamination, the oil traps this and forms a grinding paste. so i assemble engines in spraybooth conditions. but when doing engine work in vehicle, i wash off all parts and reassemble dry, close up engine and prime oilways.
  4. hi. as standard practice when waking up a rebuilt engine i leave the rocker cover off, take out the distributer and make a drive tool, i then turn the oil pump by drill( making sure of direction) and check for oil at top end, this only moves the pump, and then when oil appears you turn the engine by the crank, thus coating all moving parts. then refit plugs, dizzy and rockercover. i have looked at a rover v8 recently that had been rebuilt, it had been fitted with a high volume pump and this had sheared the the drive gear, luckerly the engine did not run, so removing the dizzy showed the problem and was run up after priming and fitting uprated gears, so i never take anything for granted. hope theres no,or little damage,
  5. hi bazza. concerning the radios for the pan. they would have been fitted by sonic communications in birmingham. best if possible to ask in person, very friendly guys in vehicle instalations. but please be aware that these radios will need a licence to broadcast, but not to receive only. do you need the radios to work? or just to fill a gap? you can try 'ex police radios' they have monthly tender sales. hope this helps. mark.
  6. hi, i looked around for some time and saw some on ebay? turns out they were not the right item at all,but looked ok. i personaly didnt bother fitting an elbow, but just took of the bellmouth and fitted hose straight to carb, which works. it looks ok and is far less restrictive, this i found important as there ar'nt that many ponies to strange. i also fitted a twin density foam fillter to box, this has shown just how much crap that these bike breath. good luck finding the right part mate.
  7. this is me at crich this year. this bike has been owned by me for around 5 years, and has been kept in its in service look. it has been totaly reliable, and i wouldnt restore it. sure its not totally original, but it is what they were really were like. used and repaired/updated with whats available. hope you like.
  8. hi. i like riding the old m20, and i have held a steady 55-60 over distances of up to 80 miles. problem is with other drivers/riders, who have no patience and overtake/undertake at the daftest times. from past experiences, i have been forced of the road when a car and caravan overtook me at over 60,then pulled in with the caravan alongside me, i braked but the caravan clipped my bars and sent me into a stone wall. on more than 1 occasion cars have overtaken, only to then slam on the brakes, also bike riders undertaking and overtaking(no mirrors) on corners. i also driver a scammell constructor, towing 2 or more trailers, all up 9ft 6 wide and upto 96ft long.being a biker makes me very aware of all hazards, and in 12years i have not as much as clipped a kerb. i also own and ride 2 military police bikes, i have no such problems when riding these !!!! i do preffer to ride to arrive safe. so i prefer the pans. all fun, just different kind. mark.
  9. hi. would like to pass on my experience. firstly i have always taken a number bikes to shows, alongside my scammell. then i was made aware that the show site, when open to the public,is a public place, and the bike is subject to the road traffic act,ie road legal. so should be insured, for this it must be taxed, moted and operated by a licence holder. so iam afraid you will have to do as i did and bite the bullit. i now dont take more than 2 bikes to any show. this is in part because of kids and youths jumping all over them, and in case one falls over on some kid. so even on static display they could be a liability. personaly i dont travel alone or far on my wm20,as it is not safe in modern traffic. and it would be a shame after surviving 70 years.
  10. this is my scammell numbers now are HSL984/ 83 bl 06. sometime before i got it. i gradualy removed and repaired all panels, painting them green as i went, unfortunatly the restoration stalled some years ago due to family problems. hope to get back on track soon. any more info would be great. all the best mark.
  11. this truck is owned by mark cunningham of derby. owned it since 1999, it was one of the manchester airport constructors. last rallied in 2010. still not finished! correct no is 83 bl 06.
  12. yes the bike is definately ex military police, have release form and some history. the pod on back is the 70s/80s stop police sign, but the police part is covered with a sticker stating military police. the bike was fitted with cleartone repeater vhf/unf and clansman was fitted to the rack on hump. my other pan was ex mod police and is equiped a little differently. i have blue and amber lenses for strobes and leds with clear lenses for road use,as you will see i have covered the blue reflective strip that borders the orange stripe. and there is no police signage at all!!
  13. hi everyone. hope this works. here is a couple of pics of one of my bikes.
  14. yes this is the type of truck, mine is missing lockers behind cab and 5th wheel. these were removed when in use at manchester airport. the lockers and winch were replaced with a concrete balast block, the 5th wheel was relaced by a homebuilt crane. thanks for your responce.
  15. hi, iam insured with premuim choice t/a roadsure. and this does include any driver over 25. costs are around 115 pounds per vehicle, this includes st1100a,wm20,scammell,landrover and gmc suburban. not had a lot of dealings with nfu, last time doubled premium for no reason. had a couple of shunts, this didnt make any difference. only gripe was that i had a claim against me when someone tryed to steal my l/r, the changeover tap was in neutral and it cut out, the thieves then let it roll into traffic.was this my fault? hope this helps, mark
  16. hi everone, i am looking for any information/pictures in service of my truck no 83 bl 06. which served with 51st royal engineers airfields, carrying plant used for building airstrips. here and in libya around the late 60s.was then completely rebuilt and stored, then caste in the 80s, then passed to manchester airport and then the gryphin trust. ive owned the truck for 11years now and would like to find out how it looked in service. any help would be gratefully recieved,
  17. yes it it is either from a martian or mk3 militant, more likely martian as the 8cyl petrol was not very popular, looks well and would be cheaper than the scammell eka,
  18. hi fluf. in answer to you. 1 the bike was fitted with the modern leds and clear lenses, the covers were for protection. 2 i run for the blood service, 3 the bike is plain white with orange stripe, no wording at all! in fact the bike is very plain! 4 the use of amber lights is restricted to very large, slow, recovery, maintanance and vehicles clearly marked and dedicated only for escort work. 5. i was carryng and showed the police the guidlines set down by both pcuk and pebec, these being the 2 largest clubs for ex police vehicles in the uk. what more could i do? the week before i was at a blue light show and made the mistake of not putting my show plates on as there was a blue light run, i beleive a marker was put on the bikes no and i was stopped the next time out! and then they tryed until they found somthing, the fine i received was for fitting an illegal beacon, this being any colour, even amber! i had no reason for beacons at the time! pretty pathetic, but still a pinch! 6, the point of what i was wearing, this is just basic kit, how many white/silver cars.bikes are there on the road? the police ect all dispose of surplus kit to the public! and then say it is you that is a criminal if they say so! 7 police for more than 2 hours and 1 for about an hour, what a waste of time? what i would like to say is that there is a lot that is at the discretion of the police, but they also will not let go if they take a dislike to you, or have a bad day!

  21. hi. i have 2 of these at moment but not in use, i have had problems with the police about them. i have been stopped and made to remove any blue lights and sirens ect by the roadside, also been fined for illegal beacons! let me add that the lights were covered and all emergencey equipment disabled at fuses. this was not satisfactory to the police, as they did without my permission disasembled the electrics and made some of the circuits live, i could do not do anything about this as i was in the back of a car answering the same stupid questrions for the 100th time, at this point a traffic officer was called and i was transfered to his car, the other 7 police then left. i was then told that he know nothing about what the other officers had done to my vehicle, only that it was in operational condition when he attended(called me a liar in fact). he threatened to seize it and have it crushed, although it was taxed, insured, moted and in perfect condition, i was also threatened with arrest for impersonating a police officer? i was dressed all in black? after some time he finaly fell back on the excuse of the antiterrorist laws? seams this is the trumpcard when they are wrong?
