  1. While searching for information on my ferret on various Facebook pages (12 Squadron Royal Engineers, and 2 Field Squadron RE) I talked to someone who told me that some ferrets were named after famous battles in WW1. Perhaps you could try searching Facebook for the units that your Ferret served with and post your question there.

  3. Sir William Thorburn K.B.E., C.B., C.M.G., F.R.C.S was an English surgeon and pioneer in modern spinal surgery. At the time of his death he was Emeritus Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Manchester. Not sure that this is the right William!
  4. So do you guys think it is a civilian mod and not an Army mod then? I have to admit it doesn't look very strong.
  5. Hi, Can anyone help me ID this draw bar. It is on my Mk3 Morris Quad FAT that I am restoring. As you can see it's a "drop down " location for the hitch to be much lower than it's original position. What I can't find out, is this a Military mod for a different gun or a civilian mod done by the Farmer (previous owner now deceased) for towing farm equipment. Has anyone ever come across anything like this before?
  6. LOL! That's paint on the door, a bi-product of cleaning your paint brush on the wall. Eater that or I'm a vampire.
  7. I have now sanded and re-primed the chassis, fitted the rear winch pulleys and fitted the bell-housing onto the gearbox.
  8. I had the two top hatches sandblasted. One of them came out badly pitted and holed, so I have sent it off to a fabricator for repair. The light steal is beyond my ability to weld
  9. I tried that. The seal I had wasn't good enough for them to copy.
  10. Hear are some over all pictures of the chassis so far. As you can see there is a bit of surface rust starting to come through the primmer, it's bean a while since I have had the time to work on it. Over the next few weeks I plan to wire brush, re-prime and paint it. I will also fit the gearbox and rear winch pulleys and strip the engine ready for rebuilding. If all goes well I will have a rolling chassis by next summer.
  11. Hear I had just finished rebuilding and fitting the winch.
  12. Just a quick heads up on the restoration so far. Hear are some pictures of the gear box. It was completely striped down and all oil seals were replaced. As was the hand brake leaver. I also had to weld the 4wd selected back together. This mechanism seams to automaticly select 4wd when 1st gear is selected...clever.
  13. Hi Bob. Fantastic work. I too am restoring a Quad. A Mk3 beetle back and am also missing the rear body:cry:. I also had problems getting the swivel ball seals, I even tried to get them made but was unsuccessfully. In the end I used a marine packing seal. It comes in lengths, you cut it to length and boil it in grease. Not sure if its going to work yet but its worth a try. Keep up the good work. Ross
  14. Well not as much work done over the summer as I had hopped, but at least the Brake master cylinders, and peddle box are all back in place (a nasty job). I removed the accelerator master cylinder ready for an inspection and rebuild.
  15. I have bean down this road already. I couldn't get the run-flat tubes (extra long valve) and had to get ordinary tubes and a new thin insert to replace the run-flat ones.
  16. The more popular our hobby becomes the higher the prices will rise.
  17. [h=5]Hi Guys. I want to get a copy made of the Canvas (Elephant/Cam) cover for the ferret. I know it's 12'x9'4" but I could do with some other measurements. Spacing for eyes, diameter of eyes, depth of seam. etc. A picture of how the corner is finished off would also be useful too. Thanks Ross[/h]
  18. Back to the grind stone this week, the good weather means I can finally do some work on the the stalwart. Fitted a new toothed drive belt. The belt tension roller was seized so I striped it down and used some bits from a spare one to make a serviceable one. The bearings will need to be replaced at a later stage but at least its working for now. I also rebuilt the brake master cylinder's ready for refitting, I also need to fit the fan belts. That will be next weeks jobs:-D
