The extinguishers would have been fitted to Post Office Telephone and Post Office vans..some of which were Morris 1000 and J2 as well as BMC and Carrier. Until the late 60's, early 70"s both organisations were one and the same and part of the govt/civil service. Then the two organisations split. British Telecom emerged later as BT whilst the Post Office remained as a mail carrier.
DAVE GENERAL POST OFFICE l remember that there vans carried these -

If you take a submarine out of water and fill it with water it then becomes a tank!
Though of course if you took a tankette and filled that full of water would it be a fishpond?
Diana
I'm fighting a rear guard action against people refering to my FV434 as a tank. I think that we have to accept that language moves on and that in the minds of the public, any tracked armoured vehicle is a tank in the same way that a steam locomotive is a train (which also gets me going).David
-
The BBC calls it a tank. Airfix call it a tank and David Fletcher of the Tank Museum calls Little Willie or The Mk 1 tank a tank..It follows logically therefore that you and your bigwig mates are wrong.
Sorry about that but cant be right with such evidence stacked against you.

As told to me by a RTR Seargent in charge of three CVR(T) that visited Jersey as part of the Liberation Day celebrations a few years back. The Lieutent Govenor, the Queen's Represenataive on the Island (Jersey and Gurnersey don't have Govenors! The Monarch as Duchess of Normandy rules!) was an Ex Colonel of the RTR. He was delighted in that I called them CVR(T)'s not tanks and knew the brown red and green stripes of the regimental flag meant through the mud and the blood to green feilds beyond. Originally the tanks were known as the Heavy Section Machine Gun Corps. Then became the Royal Tank Regiment 28 July 1917, and still jealously gaurd the difrrences bettween themselves and the Royal Armoured Corp that only came into being around 1923.Back off to the Rock tomorrow for the 70th Anniversay celebrations next Saturday May 9th.

TUT TUT ..Such bad language and attitude.
Doesn't the MK1 tank predate the RTR..or is that wrong too?
Diana
Acording to the RTR (Royal Tank Tegiment) a Tank is a vehicle designed for combat against other AFV's . A CVR(T) or CVR(W) is a reconnasince vehicle, you look you see you *** Off! -
If this is a tank, the original Mk1, then why isn't a Scorpion, Scimitar or Sabre a tank? albeit a light tank.
Diana
What you DON'T call it is a tank! -
I agree with Vince, much preferable to making a mess - and before you start have you tried to loosen the drain-refill plugs? as they can be a right pain in the backside, especially if fall down inside the gearbox/engine through not using the special tool.
Diana
To save mess, it may be possible to use a suction device and hose to extract the oil through the filler hole. -
Rists = Lucas :-)
I have some NOS FV600 series looms that I'm going to cannibalise for the smaller fittings. They seem to have been manufactured by Rists but I can't find a current supplier. This is another example, purchased via eBay: -
Some of the fittings are soldered, the latest appear to be crimped onto a pvc covered conduit, also the fittings were brass and are now plated steel (basically they rust). Not that steel should cause a soldering problem.
The real problem is where to get the fittings - most likely Lucas - and I haven't followed through on that.

I believe CVRT steering calipers (and pads) are in fact Jaguar E Type calipers and pads - apart from the seals (not the piston boots) which are different for mineral oil.
It is possible therefore, if I am correct, to fit E Type calipers (on an exchange basis?) and Landrover steering master cylinders, and not use mineral fluid in the steering but DOT 5 (silicon).

Brilliant on CVRT steering :-)

If you've tried every means possible and still have spongy hydraulic brakes or a hydraulic clutch cylinder put the pedal under as much pressure as possible for 24 hours and you will probably find the sponginess has gone!

Obviously a mistake was made, they sent Saxons instead of Springer ATV's :cool2: on the other hand they could have sent both of them as a quick way to get rid of rubbish!

IT WAS INSURED. Stop making things out to be what they arent !
So really then the mistake was nothing to do with automatic cover renewal, more the fact for the last year your vehicle may NOT have been insured, out of interest are they now covering it at a classic or some thing else.TBH the whole insurance industry really needs to look in their own back yard, the impression sometimes given is rather than covering your car/vehicle they seem to take the money and look for as many ways to get out of paying up in the event of a claim.

Thanks for link but see their Light Commercial Cover (up to 10 tonnes) would be good except that nothing over 10 YRS old .... so my 72 yr old truck is pushing it!
Their £49 cover plus mileage is for nothing over 3.5 T.....

OR

Please can you let me know who RTRUK is as I'm looking for heavy recovery. Thanks -
The mistake they admitted to was insuring it as a classic car - so if they (without you knowing) class a vehicle as a classic car and its not and you don't know what they have done then you may not get it automatically insured. despite a letter to the contrary. My vehicle - an Alvis Spartan CVR(T) would not have been automatically insured, though I thought it would.
There is no guarantee cheap or expensive how good your insurance may be - its what it says on the tin that matters or the insurance certificate.
Diana
Not sure they told ME fibs as they addmited they made a mistake with YOUR letter. As I said I was not looking for cheaper insurance, just better cover for what I need this year (any driver) which CN was NOT prepared to do. I do not beleive in cheap insurance. Of course on the vehicle I have insured with cherished I dont need heavy breakdown...this one is only a Jeep. Our heavies have their own breakdown cover.
Still pays your money takes your chances, none of us will know until we need to claim ( although hope not)
-
They must have told you fibs!
Cherished said I was better of with CN as CN were cheaper! though without heavy breakdown cover!
So I will go with CN and I've registered with RTRUK for breakdown cover (Pay as you go with an initial £50 fee for the recovery if you need it plus £1.50 per mile after the first 10 miles) as CN wanted £99 for heavy breakdown cover!
Diana
That's interesting, I was with CN and when I phoned them they said NO policies were automatic renewal.I have now gone to Cherished, not cheaper but far better cover for what i wanted.
-
My Policy with Carole Nash is just up for renewal and I received a letter stating that it WOULD automatically be renewed.
This is NOT the case as I have just discovered as told by them and the letter was a mistake. If you are sent a letter from Carole Nash stating your policy will be renewed automatically in relation to your Classic Vehicle and you assume it has been then you MAY not be driving around with no insurance, and are advised to ring them and check.

Fitted a cartridge adaptor to mine so it uses modern screw on filters. A replacement filter is cheaper, easy to obtain less messy and more efficient in removing particles. No contest

someone from the USA e-mailed me asking for the information - so here it is again
Diana
Thanks for the info - now I have a better idea how to approach thingsWalter

Direct from an acquaintance who is involved.
I think it is sad how people keep posting inaccurate information to intentionaly misslead other people. The base at bastogne is on the sale list of our defence department for some time now but that is ( i don't know if you are familiar with the bastogne base) the part with the white buildings. For the historic part that is a complete different case, everything from the historic vallue to the toerist attraction and the historic value to the american has to be concidered and all things put together it wouLd be a big mistake to sell that part and our defence department knows it.
Diana
And yes English isn't the first language of this person
Plans afoot to close the historic Bastogne barracks. If you have not visited it is well worth it! I have visited 4 or 5 times and learn something new each time. Take the time to sign the petition below!

ASDA fuel, which is usually the cheapest is also the cr****iest and will not burn in a No2 stove. It also stinks to hell. Maybe for a few pence it is worthwhile avoiding it?
