  1. Chums - spent some time on Saturday with Steve who has been kind enough to offer a basecamp for A&E 2016 at the village of Broadmayne. The historic D -Day Marshalling Camp D-5. Pointe du Hoc Rangers camped here on the build up & prior to D-Day along with the Big Red 1. This is looking a perfect location for all of us and for all of the tanks and armour that will be coming. Its a great location, in the heart of the village, on historic ground and near the pub. Great for the village, great for the event and great for history. We have some logistics to sort but Steve and I see no major issues there. Have attached some images of the entrance to basecamp and some of the ford which is on route to the Tank Museum if we were looking at the cross country route. Just wanted to say a big thank you to Steve Ellis-George of Broadmaynes Camp D5 event. More to come as we go forward! (Steve feel free to chip in here if you would like with the history of the camp.............)

  3. The problem the canvas guys have with Brit stuff is that it takes a long time to make - a lot of detail to get right. The US stuff is 'fairly' straight forward. The Brit stuff can take four times as long. The problem you can't charge four times as much?

    Spoke with Steve last week and will have a site visit. We don't have any living history groups with us as we are a vehicle event but the issue we have is the secure parking for the HGV's bringing the armour etc. Also what needs to be taken into account is weather - if it is wet would we get the HGV's out. Just all those little things that you have to look at! Will know more once I have had a look :-) But is a historic location!
  6. Hi chums, As promised, here are the details of next years event........:kiss: Many will know, A&E 2012 was the last time I was going to do such a thing. I didn't get stitched up but kind of get let down with sponsorship at the last hour. That left me with a lot of embarrassment and stress, both of which I really didn't enjoy or want again. So 2012 was it for me as I really didn't want any more hassle or stress plus I should really take all that time and energy and invest it in my own future. Like most event organisers, you don't really get any chance to enjoy as you are so busy running around, putting out fires, smoothing egos, splitting up the Patton's and Monty's of the world :angel: - pretty much like your wedding day really :kissoncheek: Anyhow - I have been picked on and bullied by Jim Clark and Adrian Scott - at one point they started to call me names :help::computerrage: But they offered a solution and that was to offer their help and support and network to make 2016 happen. So there we are, we have joined forces (not Allied) so 2016 is on! Below is the preliminary brief. It is an armour event first and foremost Max of 40 vehicles - armour and heavies will have priority. Bikes aren't included in the 40. There are no funds available for help with transport, just need to be aware of that from the get go. Self catering - no field kitchen. Dave will be with us but will be having fun like the rest of us There are costs that need to be covered, loos, field hire, water bowser and skip for the rubbish so there will be a charge for each adult who will be with us (will know a price closer to the time). Basecamp is planned on being very close to Dorchester :-) Saturday - convoy out to the Tank Museum to see......tanks and have a look at the Tiger 1 and the whole collection. We will stop half way for lunch at a village. We then return to Dorchester to head up the carnival parade. Saturday night is a social for all of us and a hog roast will be provided - we would like to make this a great evening where we all get to relax and have some fun (apparently Jim and Adrian have promised to sing....). Sunday - we have some good options here. Max of 10 tanks,armour, heavies to attend the Weymouth Veterans Parade. We are there under the invite of John and Ron - they have been kind enough to 'move' some rules to allow us to attend. The rest of us will convoy to a pub/village - may be Martinstown - where we had lunch on previous A&E's. The convoy of armour returning from Weymouth Veterans Parade will meet us there for lunch. We can then all return together, in convoy to base camp and then break camp for those who are leaving on the Sunday. Again, this will be a great event and experience. I am sorry we can't have as many vehicles as previous times but we are limited on space. The reason being, is that Jim & Adrian have been speaking with their tanker chums and they have had NINE tankers confirm that they are in. We then have to add the M4's HST's, M8's. M20's, Halftracks, Diamond T's, Macks, GMC and 105mm and wreckers. DR's - yes we need you guys and we need a fair few. I should have a point man in place next week for all DR's to liaise with :-) Jeeps - we will need some for the 'convoy work' and for the press - I intend to get as much press involved as possible this time, to get our hobby as much coverage as we can.   7. So sorry to hear that Rick - but thank you for trying your best. It is mind blowing in this day and age that our history is STILL being cut up.
  8. :embarrassed::embarrassed::undecided: We have spoke holding an armour event every year - make A&E an annual thing like Tanks in Town. Lets see how 2016 works out but you just don't get to do this very often and Dorchester is very good and relevant for such an event. BUT a crazy amount of work.

  10. Thanks Ian and full details this week. The issue we have is that we are limited on space and you will understand why once full details are posted. So we will have to limited the amount of soft skins unless it is BIG soft skins - if you that makes sense!

  13. Folks, Just a short note to say that A&E will be happening next year - A&E 2016. Will update more this week but things are just a bit different this time around as now have a team together of well known tankers. Will be limited to 40 vehicles only and self catering and the focus is on armour and big stuff. More details this week! Cheers, Jack.

  20. Thank you Bernard - I couldn't say it better myself, I appreciate your comments. On August 1st HMVF will be 10 years old - we have all done some great work here. Learnt so much, saved history, shared knowledge, we have laughed and cried at times and certainly I, for one, have made some life long friends here. Well known magazine editors have come here to find people and vehicles to fill their pages - which they get paid for, so they use HMVF to great advantages to themselves. One well known former editor was giving HMVF a kicking on a social media platform the other day. That's not really called for, especially when you take my above comment into consideration. So I and the Mods get a lot of abuse and cr*p for what we do and we do it all for free. I am not a big fan of adverts either but as Bernard pointed out, it has personally cost me £1000's over the years. If you take into account that I have done that for nearly 10 years - then you can see that is a big cost from my own pocket - so when I do ask for some support I do it for a reason. And that's for the benefit of us all. And don't forget the Mods get all the cr*p too and they too do it all for free and for the benefit of us all and the hobby. I have, for the last ten years, listened to ALL feedback and have acted upon it if I was able to. As Bernard said "Lighten up out there it's only the inter web after all..."
  21. No you are wrong in thinking that Gary - it cost's more than that but we do have advert banners on here which helps bring the costs down to us.
