    Gunk!

There’s two threaded holes in the pulley which go all the way thro' providing you put a couple of heavy pieces of metal between the back of the pulley and the timing cover you can use the bolts, turned 1/2 a turn alternately, to push the pulley off. Don't forget you have to drop the sump if you need to take that timing cover off. It’s a bu**ger. Rex has [had?] pulleys, and Loktite has Bearing Fit. This will take up quite an amount of wear. Anaerobic.

    Gunk!

Personally don't like the smell of Gunk, although it is effective. Always reminds me of Jays fluid and of course toilets. I prefer to use Jizer. Hows the front end, and the woodruff key? Karoshi
  3. Interesting Kewelde, I tried to obtain some last year and contacted Grangers direct, they said it was no longer available, perhaps this was because they manufacture for outsourcing. Good stuff all the same. An after thought on Fabsil for those intending to use it, beware of glued seams or repaired patches, Fabsil will unstick them, and at £35;00 a gallon it could be expensive.
  4. Blidge next weekend. Can you PM me the co-ordinates mate.
  5. Is Mesowax still available? I thought it had been replaced by Fabsil.
  6. WAR PAINT from RR Services. This has a colour pigment and will shade faded canvas back to OD. It also waterproofs of course. Fabsil is good but clear and Brickseal is cheaper. War paint is about £18.50 for 2.1/2 ltrs and you will need 2 or 3 for the 353. Just done the Jeep canvas so if you can hang on till I see you next you can judge for yourself. Karoshi
  7. Jack do I have to bring mine too. You know just in case. Nice pictures of some Bluebells there, you old romantic you.
  8. Jeeps should be kept dirty at all times, they just don't look right clean :!: Hear, Hear.
  9. Hi Al, and WELCOME. As a Carbine shooter do you have a keen period interest i.e. WW2.? Will it influence the type of MV you'll buy? Will it be U.S.? What do you have in mind so we can ALL tell you why you're wrong. lol. Karoshi
  10. So Jack, with 100 members on board, why don't we have a HMVF on-line petition ?
  11. I've written, TWICE, and signed three petitions.

    MOTs

The cut off point is soon realised when the Man from the Ministry 'pulls' you for a road side spot inspection. Deep Deep Do Do if it ain't up to scratch. Its the committment you make and the concession they offer for NOT demanding an MOT/PLATING TEST. Abuse it and get caught with a dodgy vehicle and it's 'Throw the book at you time'. In March I was asked to present my 352 at the Ministry testing station, all routine stuff, I kept the appointment time and two very nice young men spent nearly a whole hour talking WW2. When I dared to ask if we could get on with the inspection, as I was running late for a meeting, one quickly kicked two tyres, said it was a real treat to see something unusual, offered his condolences about the fuel economy, and said all was in order and I could go. His only interest seemed to be matching engine and chassis number to the log book. Very nice man.
  13. If I had a M26 DRAGON WAGON I'd take it to Tesco's. Whats wrong with Tesco's. I do it with the Deuce.
  14. Some interesting comments here. For my part re-enacting doesn’t start until badges are worn. Up to that point 'in keeping' clothing may appeal for a number of reasons, practicality, comfort or just in support of the military theme. BUT add a badge or Divisional Marking or a Unit Insignia and to my mind you've crossed that unwritten line. You're now portraying history; events lived out by real people in real situations. To my mind there is now at least a moral obligation to respect and to honour their commitments and sacrifices. I'm not suggesting for a minute that re-enacting is in any way wrong or that it should be banned or controlled, but bearing a unit insignia and maybe a badge of rank, takes it to a whole new level. There are those that have crossed that line and honour that commitment, unfortunately there are also those who do not.

    Aldbourne

Tim they're either filming more 'Doctor Who' and Jacks got a bit part or he's off to catch the atmosphere of the 101 Airborne Division, who stayed there prior to D-Day. No event on that I know of. Karoshi
  17. It was all so long ago....I, I really can't remember.
  18. I was young naive and innocent; I didn't know what I was doing.
  19. In 1976 I featured in a two page spread of 'Men Only' magazine. Karoshi
  20. The trouble only really starts when you go down to the D.V.L.A. for a registration plate, see you have to prove the manufacture date. Now we wouldn't want a 'new build' Sherman running around on a 'Q' plate.... would we. Just wouldn't look right. So why not fake a chassis number with a set of punches and take the whole chassis down and show them the number, and get youself a nice age related plate. Then you'll have all the kudos of lovely black and white lettering rather than that new yellow stuff. You won't stand out in a crowd, and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you have a real restored vehicle rather than a replica. Karoshi
  21. It’s all to do with that very important chassis number. Re manufacture EVERY part and assemble it you've got a replica; re manufacture every part but add an original data chassis number, [that may be on a separate plate] and you've got a 1st class restoration. Big court battle some time ago re TWO parties that rebuilt a famous Brooklands crash. Both claimed originality, one had a damaged repaired chassis; the other had the bulkhead data plate. The case cost thousands, and there was a court ruling. There are several parts built jeeps presently for on sale, they have new everything including chassis. They are NOT ww2 jeeps. [Edited for spelling]
  22. Bit like Trigger's [ Only Fools and Horses ] broom. 6 new heads and 4 new handles, but its the same brush he's had since man and boy.
