  1. Lloyd not quite sure I understand your problem. By front fender you do mean the front wings? You are trying to fit original front wings to a repro tub? Yeah? Is the tub MD Juan? I had a similar problem, one side fitted pretty much ok, the other just didn't line up at all!

No Jack, there isn't lots of different coloured GMC's in it. They're ALL GREEN. Just different SHADES. Have you got a Gas Chromatograph and Mass Spectrometer? Karoshi
  3. Well I've mentioned it elsewhere on this forum, and for me its always a good read and re-read. "THE ROAD to VICTORY" The untold story of the Red Ball Express. Its packed full of statistics and first hand accounts of those actually there. It at long last pays tribute to those guys that kept the war running. Whether you're a Jimmy owner or not this is interesting reading and should be in everyones collection. Warner Books. $6.99 U.S. Google for supplier.
  4. A very nice edge indeed
  5. Hey Oddball when you filmed that scene in the railway yard how come you played "All for the Love of Sunshine" on that BIG speaker thing. It wasn't written until 1970! Karoshi
  6. Jack, any thoughts: General Schlemm German 1st Para Corps 1944 and ?????????? Karoshi

Oddball, I've checked my own library and the Wings and Wheels publication that Jack refers too definately seems to refer to the Jimmy: Karoshi

At risk of sticking my neck out a bit. Terence Wise has, well....been wrong before. Jack just go with the FULL MATT finish and let it take on its own patina. It'll counter shade itself given time.
  11. No I really don't see it as "going home"; obviously not every vehicle was necessarily shipped on D-Day itself, although of course we all dream that ours was. To my mind it’s an interesting place to visit to put things in perspective; until you've been there we only have the Hollywood image to relate too. To stand at the waters edge at low water springs and look up the open expanse of beach is an image the movies just don't give you. It really does put things into perspective, and make you appreciate exactly what these guys faced, and the gives you just the slightest taste of what they must have experienced. Brave guys indeed. There are of course other little known aspects of the landings that are seldom seen and never portrayed, the original temporary cemetery at Omaha being one of them. We all know the permanent one on the hill overlooking the bluffs, but how many of us know about this one: And how many of us actually know the significance of the road banners showing Verlaines poem Chanson d'automne? It’s a place to reflect and to try to understand.

No Matt, but I will. I'm interested in all aspects of the West Wall but have a particular thing about the Hurtgen, so few people know of it yet it claimed so many. So desperate was the fighting there that the US top brass invited "allowed" black troops the "honour" of fighting for their country. Until then they were non combatant. The 5 months of the Hurtgen are always overshadowed by the Bulge. The guys who took part in The Green Hell of the Hurtgen NEVER get a mention. But the guys in Bastogne were made out to be heroes. The Hurtgen campaign was dismissed in ONE LINE in Eisenhower’s History of WW2. The film "When Trumpets Fade" (DVD) was about the Forest, it is graphic. But it was NOT released stateside. Nuff said. Of 21049 cases of desertion only ONE example was made in WW2 by execution, it was Eddie Slovik--the place was the Hurtgen. http://www.answers.com/topic/eddie-slovik Read the history of the "Keystone Division" or "Bl**dy Bucket" as they were known. Their losses were staggering. Sorry get off my high horse now. Karoshi

    Books

There are so many good books out there. My particular interest is post D-day and in particular The Hurtgen Forest (Hurtgenwald). (Thirty Thousand American GI's were killed or wounded in the longest battle ever faught by the US army- a battle that has been ignored for more than 50 years. a battle that should never have been fought) Try "The Battle of the Hurtgen Forest" Charles WHITING. Pan Books. Its topical as in October '44 the Death Factory as it was known would be claiming over 2000 casualties a DAY ! For Bastogne try "Seven Roads to Hell" Don R BURGETT (yes the same one) A Screaming Eagle at Bastogne. World War 2 Library. and for the Bulge "A Blood Dimmed Tide" Gerald ASTOR. The Battle of the Bulge. World War 2 library. and on a transportation theme "The Road to Victory" David P COLLEY. Its THE storey of the Red Ball Express. Go get 'em

    And a shop

Can you be a little more specific Shane. What era? what nationality? what gender? It would be very difficult to offer "ALL of the colours in ALL of the sizes" You'd need a wearhouse to store it................. and a bank to fund it! Karoshi
  18. OK so what do you guys know about Nurses Uniforms. No... No.... No ....Its a serious request, Maddy is looking for something for daytime wear but doesn't really want a "fitting" uniform. Must be U.S.A based and be CHEAP. Any ideas welcomed. Karoshi
  19. Ever get that "I want to KILL it" feeling, seen a bad post, or read some sort of drivel, or perhaps jst dnt lke txt spk, well now you can EXPRESS yourself : http://home.pacbell.net/tom99999/stressreducers.exe esc to exit. Enjoy Karoshi
  20. Might see you there then. I'm hoping to stay at Port en Basin again, it has an excellent campsite and good sevices. Its dead handy for all the beaches as its pretty much in the middle. Not to far to any of the American beaches, and Omaha in particular. This photo was taken on June 6th 2004 at the Vierville Draw and is of D-Day veteran Dalton Levy, sat in my jeep. 79 years old now and he still drove it! The D.U.K.W swimming off Omaha was interesting, as was the temporary beach sculpture, There were other more serious moments though, Jack when we speak next I'll give you the low down. Its a great place to visit. Take my tip, go to a chandlers and buy a small French courtesy flag, fly it proudly. It'll open so many doors! Karoshi
  21. I'd like to extend a warm welcome to our newest member "Jacks Wife". Berni's waiting for you in the ladies room, well you know what I mean. Karoshi
  22. This Ladies Only thing, how come you're the ONLY one allowed in there. Are we allowed to sort of listen in, or are we males all banned, and should we call you Jackie?
  23. Hey Oddball, ............... WOOF, WOOF! I messed around with water injection some years ago. Although it showed promise I couldn't really get it reliable. But it was a home brewed kit and well you know.....needed more research, and fettling! That was in the days of high octane fuel and 12:1 compression ratio's. Retro on a low compression slow revving Stovebolt I can't see you'll get ANY gain. Just my 2p. I've seen the latest reviews, and have to say I'm not fully convinced that for a couple of hundred quid its the way to go, BUT if it can be used in conjunction with an LPG fit up well............ maybe. I'm personally committed to the gas thing, as I can't see carbon fuels being made more price attractive. At today’s prices I figure I'll break even in three seasons, for the mileage I intend to do. If I keep the Jimmy in commission all year round and do some extra miles it will of course show a benefit sooner. As the kit can be mounted and de-mounted with little permanent damage to the 352 I have no problem with installing it. I figure I'll see my money back either in running costs or at resale time. On the 352 and 353 all the major components can be fitted out of sight and the external appearance remains unchanged. The good news is that I WILL be able to offer HMVF members a deal on a complete kit, if purchased as a bulk order. Please note: I'm purely setting this up and WILL NOT profit from the arrangement. If anybody else is interested in a complete kit, please speak up. Oddball you going the Water route? Karoshi
