  4. Hi Barry, I have just finished researching the same. Some many years ago I converted my Range Rover to LPG, and was quite impressed. I have just made some costings for the 352, and a complete kit is in the region of £550 with electronic control. This can be reduced to around £480 without the electronics, but its a less efficient system. A standard tank of about 100 ltrs is included. Remember though that the tank can only be "charged" to 80% capacity, i.e. 80 ltrs usable. At 39p - 43p per litre you can do your own costings, and see how long it will take you to make a return. Remember as well that ltr for ltr gas gives about 20% less milage, as it hold less energy than petrol. There are a number of conversion suppliers but I have settled on : http://www.tinleytech.co.uk/kit-extras.html#Lambda%20control a visit to their site will give you all the info you require. If youre interested in going ahead keep in touch maybe we can do a deal on a combined purchase. Karoshi 352

    1940's

Hopefully I will be able to log on in my own name soon, dads trying to sort it out right now. I have some great web sites to give you ideas about 40's get ups, but dads looking to get some stuff to start a shop! That would be really cool. The stuff at the shows is really exspensive as it all old and genuine, repro stuff is not easy to get here, but dads got a contact. My Siren suit outfit cost £10. But I did pinch mums headscarf. I had lots of trouble getting a red lipstick, you know a BRIGHT RED lipstick, that looked correct. Mum also taught me to put lines up the backs of my legs 'cos stockings had seams then. I did it with eye liner. I hope Wendy comes again next year, she was good to talk too. Will you be going to Beltring in 2006? is your dad taking his lorry and camping?. We are.
  7. Jack: *Yes there is, it’s just that you can't see it. *It’s a parallel taper. *No *No Just use the bolts and pull the so**ing thing off. Karoshi
  8. You didn't answer no 9. Karoshi.
  9. Jack as said. 1/. The pulley is a combination device of pulley and harmonic damper. The damper is insulated from the pulley by way of rubber mounts, the mounts are retained by thro' bolts ( these ((you said rivits)) have nuts on the back! ) If this rubber isolation pad fails you will appear to have play in the pulley. 2/. To renew the broken pulley you must now pull the starting handle dog to renew the pulley, which as you say fits behind the dog. 3/. If the timing cover needs to be removed you will have to drop the sump pan to access the two bolts which secures the bottom of the timing cover. These fit from the inside, all the rest fit from the outside. 4/. The picture you show is of the crankshaft with the starter dog still in place. This dog is a straight pull off the crankshaft. The two threaded holes in that dog flange can be used to push the dog off, be careful to protect the timing case cover from denting owing to these removal screws pressing on it. 5/. A straight pull is ESSENTIAL or the dog will bind. 6/. Either way from here on you must remove that dog to repair this situation. 7/. IF the keyway is nadgered a LOT of effort may be required to pull the dog, and a hydraulic puller would be best. 8/. I'm guessing, but if the dog is still tight on the crank your problem was worn rubbers in the harmonic damper, giving the appearance of a floppy keyway. If it was as loose as you claim the damper should now just fall off! 9/. IF you use heat to encourage the dog off, you WILL damage the timing cover oil seal. But you will be replacing this anyway...wont you! Hope this helps Karoshi, who can't even put a tent up.
  10. .................Ashley, we best keep that amongst ourselves  quote] Look guys my multifarious poles was not a case of confusion. It was sound engineering experimentation based on emperical practice. Snug as a bug we was. Anyways I would have slept under the stars for a breakfast like that. Thanks everyone for a cracking weekend. Colin and Mrs Colin
  11. Well I couldn't decide on where to post a link of general interest, its not specific to any nationality and doesn't fit nicely into any other thread so I put it here, even though it says no MV's. Jack you'll just have to fine me or something. Some nice pics at: http://users.pandora.be/theliberator/militaryvehicles.htm Karoshi
  12. No, the combined crank pulley and vibration damper is not retained on the crank front end. It is a parallel taper boss with a straight keyway, and a straight push fit, there is no retaining bolt inside the dog. The pulley MUST be pulled evenly with two bolts or by the use of a puller; applying uneven pressure will cause the pulley to lock. If your keyway is already damaged this will be even more important. It MUST be A STRAIGHT PULL. Karoshi

    1940's

I should have said, I'm the one on the left. The girl in the middle is Wendy from California, she was really nice, and the girl on the right is my school friend that I shared the tent with. Wendy has a jeep, and came especially for the Beltring show, KEEN eh ! Maddy

    1940's

Hi I'm Madeleine, Colins (352) daughter, we went to Beltring last year and camped for the week. I slept in a 12 x 12 with a friend and dad slept in the Deuce. Lots of people were wearing 1940's outfits and on the Saturday I dressed up too. In the day I dressed as a factory worker, I did my hair, my lips, and wore a onepiece blue working suit and red spotted head scarf. The heavy boots were good for walking around the show, but were tiring. Dad says the suit was called a Boiler suit or Siren suit. In the evening I wore a black dress and stockings with seams, and some period style shoes. Mum taught me to wear a Hair Net and it felt rather odd. Several other girls dressed up too and we had a great time driving around in dads jeep, getting whistles from the GI's!! I'm going again next year! Maddy
  15. The Bren Carrier was only one form of the Universal Carrier. The vehicle was designed (1934) principally to transport Infantry troops across lightly defended ground. But as a Universal Carrier is was used in many roles, to transport ammunition, food, water, mortars, medical supplies and all the other essential kit required to "keep the man in the line". Open topped with little armour they were not a substitute for light tanks, but were frequently deployed in that role, often with catastrophic results. In other roles they were used as forward observation vehicles, radio vehicles and also flame throwers, as an observation tower with the addition of an elevation platform, it was known as the Praying Mantis. Stripped of its engine and internals it was known as a Gutted trailer and could carry two tons (usually fuel or ammo) when towed behind a REME tank. Armoured against small arms fire only (5 to 12mm frontal armour ) they were also deployed in the recon role because of their speed (30mph)and low silhouette. They did however prove to be less successful as a towing tractor for artillery, as they lacked power and reliability in this role. The concept remains is service to this day. Karoshi

Matt you're absolutely right, it’s a carefully choreographed smoke screen of information and dis-information, but the clock remains ticking. The airsoft community is of course concerned and has to some extent been united in this cause. They have at least attended a Home Office meeting and probably have the best 'feel' of current thinking. Their view is that things don't look good, and they are trying to double and redouble their efforts. Our concern as Military vehicle enthusiasts should be that this proposed legislation will apply to deacts, i.e. for Airsoft read DEACTS. This lengthy extract is taken directly from their webby and IS worth the read. The Violent Crime Reduction Bill How does it effect airsoft (deacts) The government is looking to reduce crime by using the bluntest tool of all, a ban of sales. This will probably have the desired effect and reduce the availability of replicas to the criminal and those dead set on mischief and antisocial behavior but it will kill stone dead the sport of airsoft and heavily effect other areas replicas have legitimate uses, such as re-enactment and the film industry. The VCR Bill has to go through the government system and has already had 2 readings in the house of commons. The next stage the bill must pass through is the committee stage where the exact wording, the practicalities and implications of the bill are sorted out. This is the stage airsofters stand the greatest chance of getting things changed. The Home secretary Charles Clarke has indicated exemptions are available for those legitimate users who put a strong enough case forward. Airsoft needs such an exemption. The committee members have just been announced and are:- Chaired by Mr Joe Benton - Labour, Bootle Mr Eric Forth - Conservative, Bromley & Chislehurst Members Ms Diane Abbott - Labour, Hackney North & Stoke Newington Hazel Blears - Labour, Salford (Min State Police, Crime etc) Kevin Brennan - Labour, Cardiff West (Asst Whip, HM Treasurey) Ms Dawn Butler - Labour, Brent South Mr James Clappison - Conservative, Hertsmere Rosie Cooper - Labour, West Lancashire Mr Jonathan Djanogly - Conservative, Huntingdon Lynne Featherstone - Lib Dem, Hornsey & Wood Green Stewart Hosie - SNP, Dundee East Mr Kevan Jones - Labour, North Durham Ms Sally Keeble - Labour, Northampton North Steve McCabe - Labour, Birmingham Hall Green Mr Humfrey Malins - Conservative, Woking Mr Mark Oaten - Lib Dem, Winchester Stephen Pound - Labour, Ealing North Mr Mark Prisk - Conservative, Hertford & Stortford Mark Pritchard - Conservative, The Wrekin Chris Ruane - Labour, Vale of Clywd Jim Sheridan - Labour, Paisley Lynda Waltho - Labour, Stourbridge Jeremy Wright - Conservative, Rugby & Kenilworth. There are 13 Labour, 7 Conservative, 2 Lib Dem, 1 SNP. MP’s are currently on their summer recess and will form the committee when they return to parliament in October. Before this date all of the above MP’s need lobbying to put our views across and inform them in a positive manner about airsoft. The ABA are actively lobbying these MP’s but need the help of ABA supporters to be as effective as possible. We are actively seeking constituents of the committee members to put our case forward, as members of the committee they have a duty to listen to anybody who has an interest and become stakeholders, but they also have a duty to their constituents. If your MP is listed above please get in touch and help us gain an exemption for airsoft. Without an exemption things look bleak at best. There will be no new blood coming into the sport and the players already committed will not be able to purchase any new airsoft guns. The sites throughout the UK will eventually close as numbers dwindle and their stocks of hire guns become damaged beyond repair. There will cease to be any dedicated retailers, most will go out of business very quickly, others will diversify into other fields and sell progressively less and less equipment. Airsoft will die! Estimates are airsoft will cease to exist within 5 years, a tragic waste for a sport with so much potential. Please do your part and help with the lobbying campaign. Their site at http://associationofbritishairsoft.org/index.php?page=abavcrb carries further information. If at this late hour you as an individual can not respond directly in support of this cause, please respond indirectly by signing their petition at: http://associationofbritishairsoft.org/support//aba_support.htm This is NOT as good as DIRECT LOBBYING but it is better than NOTHING. 21. Desperately trying to get INFORMED info arising from the recent meeting. Much conjecture but few FACTS. Am onto it. The BIG point to note is that an unofficial date has been set for the introduction of this act. It is to be enacted BEFORE the 24hrs Drinking laws come into force, i.e. November 2005. Just 6-7 weeks away!!!! WE MUST ACT NOW.
  22. Richard I had a similar problem and used an electric drill. Drill a small (1/8th) pilot hole through the face of the nut at the widest point, being carefull not to damage the stud thread or to drill too deep to damage the drum. Progressivly enlarge the hole to the max you dare. Split the nut on the drill mark with a sharp cold chizel. This will release the tension and will allow easy removal. It all takes a little time but hey the winters coming! Karoshi

  24. Jack not to labour a point but I'd like to see some more action re the VCR bill. Following last weeks meeting the news is looking pretty BAD. This bill IS going to be steamrollered through and WE MUST ALL DO MORE TO PREVENT IT. Or it’s no rubber M2HB for you. Please... let’s run a sticky with links to all threads to highlight the seriousness of the bill. Karoshi
