  1. When travelling through Holland I used a yellow beacon on my vehicle, again the fast moving traffic pulled out long before they reached me. However, the traffic police pulled along side me and insisted that I should turn off my beacon, which of course I did........... did`nt make any sense to me, because from that point on I got toots and honks from other drivers because they were running up behind me and getting bottled in by the drivers who like myself are well aware of whats going on up ahead and had pulled out in good time to pass me!!!!!!!
  2. The village war memorial in the village of Chesterton, Staffs. was vandalized by a yob or yobs yesterday. They sprayed blue paint onto the memorial, covering some of the names. The local authorities are there today attempting to remove the paint. This memorial has a lot of the local people in attendence for the service on the 11th November, thats only a few days away, obviously the locals are appauled by this action and hope that the culprit / culprits can be found. Someone knows who is responsible, what kind of animals are we breeding??? Its no use suggesting that these people do not know of the sacrifices made by that generation, its now on the school corriculum...... I attend enough schools along with my friends with our vehicles to educate them, makes you feel that you are wasting your time!!!!
  3. Hi, and welcome in from lovely Holland.
  4. Hanging is to good for this kind of SCUM........ I do hope that they do catch them, someone knows who they are.
  5. The inserts may be TOO LONG, preventing the manifold from compressing the gasket correctly AND evenly.
  6. Hi welcome in........ it will travel along slightly faster with the Rolls engine, but you will still not have to worry about speed cameras. Have fun, a lovely old truck, the gear box is a work of art with the 3 speed transfere case and four speed auxilary box.
  7. Welcome along, I am sure that you will find all the inspiration and help that you might need.
  8. I am a member of the North Staffs MVT, and I would just like to say what my friends mean to me. I have not enjoyed good health over the last few years, but my friends have not only encouraged me to join with them on trips to Normandy and Arnhem, but they have taken me has a passenger and looked after me like a baby. They have made the experience such a great pleasure, they know how much that I have enjoyed these trips over the years. I only regret that I cannot repay them in kind, I just want them to know how much that they mean to me. A wonderful bunch of human beings that have become exceptional friends.
  9. Thank you for making an old man feel much better........ I have some fantastic memories..... how I wish that I could do it all again. I talk with many friends of my age, and we all agree that we have lived through what we believe to have been the best possible time, we had very little, but life was full of promise.
  10. To keep my cooling systems clean I stick a couple of handfulls of Soda Crystals in the rad, I run with it for the season and then just flush it out, its always worked very well, keeps the system clean.
  11. Why does the brain go mushy when you are in your seventies............. Jukebox, Jukebox, 100 times, Jukebox.
  12. In the mid 1950s myself and two telecommunications S/Sgts travelled from our workshops (6.Armd. Hamm) myself doing the driving. We took a 3 tonne truck (I seem to recall that it was a Fordson V8, workshop bodied) We travelled to the 17th/21st Lancers, they were stationed at that time on the East German Border at Brunswick (Braunschweig) We stayed there for a few days to complete our task. Whilst there I witnessed something that I found quite ammusing at the time. I was sitting in the NAAFI having some refreshments and listening to the records on the very ornate dukebox. All of the guys in there were 17th/21st, apart from myself and a few other REME (LAD) guys. A trooper walked up to the dukebox and stood contemplating what songs that he wanted to play (You got 3 records for your coin) just when he had deposited his coin into the machine, a much bigger guy who had been standing behind him, just pushed him to one side and selected his choice of record. I remember that they were all Elvis Presley records, Elvis was very popular at that time, in fact I think that Elvis had just arrived in Germany to do his service with the US Army....... good days.....good times... good memories.
  13. Yep, certainly reminded myself of my time there 1956 / 58. REME Workshops.

Tonight, Monday 22/10/12 there`s a proramme on channel 9, all about british troops in Germany (BAOR) after the second world war, which I assume will cover the 1950s, the period that I spent there. It should give some indication of what military life was like at that time.
  15. Thank you very much for your quick response, I had heard that there could be a problem with none-genuine plates (Thickness) That seems like the solution to that problem, thank you again for the info.
  16. Hi Folks, I need a new set of clutch plates for our sons M.20, any ideas where I can obtain same, present ones seriously effected by oil ingress, have had the oil problem solved now. I also believe that you can fit a wet clutch from the B40 into the M20......... any thoughts on that one, maybe you have already done that??? Thanks in anticipation for any help.
  17. Thats unbelieveable value, the whole experience must have been fantastic, I think that you may have ignited a few sparks.
  18. I stand corrected.......... still reckon that it may be a Crossley?????
  19. Its also very similar to the Morris Commercial "D" Type, introduced in 1927 untill 1933........ I bet that that step got well covered in mud during wet conditions, not much emphasis on health and safety in them days.
  20. Thats a beautiful piece of kit.
  21. Hi, welcome to the friendly forum, I have always fancied a 980 / 981 D/T. I think that you should hear the engine run before you spend any more monies..... good luck with it, pics are always welcome, one pic speaks volumes.

My wife Margaret had listened to me saying what a nice country Germany was, and how much that I had enjoyed my army service there in the 1950s, so I promised that I would take her there one day for a holiday. We managed to make that trip around 1988, thirty years after I had been discharged. We travelled with a couple of our friends and spent a week sailing up and down the Rhine river We can be seen sitting on the top observation deck, left to right, my wife Margaret, our friends wife, myself (I think thats the only time that I have bothered to wear sunglasses.) and my friend. We had a great time and can recommend that particular holiday.
