  1. I've also established that the Arrows trailer has the same 1 1/2" Lockheed master cylinder as the Humber Pig, with exact mounting hole positions as well.

That may come in useful if the bore on mine makes a seal kit a waste of time.... LoL.

I used it at the weekend camping and It towed like a dream, even if it was a little low at the hitch. We certainly got everything in it and not the boot, the roof etc...... :D

I'll post some pictures shortly if anyone is interested.

  2. Well I bought the Arrows and what a sound trailer it is.

A few cosmetic issues but towed it back over 150miles and it was faultless and the brakes are excellent with very little snatching at the pintle end. Towed using wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee, and didn't miss a beat.

better economy than lugging her horse trailer too ;)

Its a big one that's for sure but I think a real bargain and the little bits are there like wheel brace canvas cover and rear legs etc.

It will most definitely have it's uses.

  3. Well the Genny runs super smooth when connected as a motor in accordance with EMER 254 Wh Vhl.

I took another peek inside the gen panel, and can't see anything obvious.

just the Choke looks a little pitted and still unsure if the wires half way down coiling are broken off from something.

The top wire mY have broken from connection with condenser, but it's not obvious.

Anyone see any clues. It needs a proper test to check regulators under load I guess :(

  4. Have you seen it? The Arrows 1.3/4 Ton trailer is a big beast, they are not very popular and mint ones are not expensive. They are heavy if you need to move it on your own .

That explains the price I guess.

    Thanks for the info :-)

  5. Yes but will it Wayne? A bargain but with what are you going to tow it & for what purpose? AFAIK it looks like the Pig is the only option you have but they are not matched mechanically or historically & you must surely be able to fit any of your kit within the Pig itself?

I don't know, you might be planning to fit a pair of Water Carriage Packs & be able to water the horses. I have just one WCP for that purpose. But even my much smaller FV2381 doesn't see much use & as you know ends up as a storage facility for junk :D

Yes and No to all of the above! I have a few uses in mind and not necessarily for the Pig, as I would prefer to find a 1 Ton trailer in due course to be correct as you say.

One mans junk is another mans treasure ;)

  6. The draught eye height might be a bit high for a Humber, more suited to a 4 tonner. Awfully nose heavy on those trailers and you definitely need the jockey wheel down when unhooking.

    Thanks Richard. Useful

  7. I've got the opportunity to acquire an Arrows 3/4 Ton trailer for a handful of pounds.

I regret selling my Sankey some years back and I think the Arrows may be an alternative. Ideally suited more to the Humber? Also it's larger which appeals to me also.

I know it's larger than a Sankey and they were usually pulled by trucks, not Landies, but what else should I be aware of.

    Are they a good mule?

    Cheers

  8. Thanks Clive

The guidance in the EMER about running the genny as a Motor worked, so thanks for gleaming this from the Champ boys at Evesham show .:D

I need to establish that it is running smooth and clockwise as the test carried out was a brief one if I am honest.

I didn't run it for two long as I didn't want to cause any damage long term.

Now the Genny is off I will take the end off and give some TLC to the bushes and carry out a visual inspection, whilst it is off the vehicle.

All good fun as they say :nut:

  9. Hi

I may be looking for a replacement Dynamo / Genny for my Humber FV1611a, as it isn't charging and may be past serviceable repair.

I have the No1 Mk1 panel generator so I have to find a replacement that suites with it.

The same dynamo / genny was used on the 24v champs (Not FFW), so if anyone has one they no longer need and wanted to part with it them please let me know.

    Thanks in advance as always.

  10. Dear Forum Collective!

I am looking for the clamp bracket that secures the CAV screened Dizzy assembly in the block and stops it rotating.

If anyone has one lurking in the garage or that box of bits from a previous vehicle / or even spare. :D

Please drop me a line as I need one.

My Toastie has a civi dizzy fitted, which has to go! :embarrassed:

Thanks in advance if you can help me out.

    Ta.

  11. Hi, I was interested in a few of the vehicles that were in the Caen auction last Saturday. I am wondering if anyone knows of or can reccomend a transport company that could move a gmc cckw from France? I would like to do it myself but can't find a hire company that covers european travel! Thanks, Steve

    Steve

I used www.shiply.com recently and they can move things to and from Europe.

    Worth a crack!

Enter your details and many companies all bid for your custom.

I got quite a few quotes and ended up using the cheapest!

  12. Well.

Yesterday was Fathers day and I was allowed to completely immerse myself with my toys, so thank you to Mrs F and the children.

I spent some time running diagnostics on the generator and panel, due to the batteries not being charged. More on that to follow after I have shared some info with Clive.

Then I set about removing some of the rusty and perished metalwork from the front lockers and wheel arches in advance of them being re-created.

A new seal kit is on the way for the master cylinder.

I will need to track down an oil seal sleeve tool soon though as I have noticed that the Tracta joint bellows were pretty knackered, but instead of being replaced they had lace up ones over the top.

Therefore there will be no oil in there. Given the grease and filth underneath I guess they were just greased up to the nines!

Milky liquid is some rust treatment I slapped about prior to them being ground down and the metalwork re-done properly. A bit of a preventative treatment.

I guess its all progress, but wondered if anyone has had any success in having a No1 Mk1 dynamo / generator overhauled?

    Cheers

  13. Wayne the field winding is A & B, the output is C & E. I know you have got an Avo :D

So I am checking resistance on the two points from the dynamo etc.

Do I touch one of the 'Avo' leads on the A and the other on the B

    Similarly for C and D.

Sorry to sound dim if this is pretty easy!

I took the cover off and noticed what I thought was a loose or broken winding on the Choke? What would that affect?

    Panel Gen No1 Mk1 001.jpg

  14. I would do the basic test on the dynamo itself as in the UHB but be careful not to let revs go too high. Maybe look out for a No.2 panel which should be easier to obtain & could be used either as a direct replacement or for originality a substitute for testing.

Before that just check the dynamo field winding. The resistance will be in EMER POWER P 124/3 Field Repairs or P 128/3 Base Standard. But I would guess somewhere in the 10 ohms region.

I need to learn all this, but right now it sounds like double Dutch

Its all a Black Science to me mate........

  15. Wayne it would be worth joining this group as the subject will have been extensively covered before.

    Thanks Clive.

    Have that!

    Done that!

    Just waiting for approvals etc.

I noticed in the EMER 254 Wheeled Vehicles for the FV1600 that is states where the cables are removed to join the connections A&C etc.

Its the cable from the panel to the battery.

I guess it is to see if the regulator and cut-outs are working correctly in the panel.

I may have to search for a back up panel as a spare anyway, irrespective of getting this matter resolved.

    Cheers
