  1. G'day Wayne,

    Thanks for that.

I have a USA. Remington WWI bayonet which has two creased in each side of the wood work to differentiate them from the .303cal. bayonets as they are made for the .306cal and the slot won't fit a .303cal. rifle. They are so alike that they had to mark them to avoid grabbing the wrong one in an emergency.

    Regards Rick.

That's the fellow I have too. I have the original scabbard for it too with dark green leather etc. I will take a picture and upload at some point.

At first I thought it was the British one, as used on the LE No4 due to looks but then spotted the US markings and Remington insignia.

    Cheers

  2. My neighbour is an ex guards man and has been chatting with me about his time in service.

Probably because he saw the 'All seeing Eye' icon on the back of my Humber.

He has asked me about obtaining a replica / deact SLR.

He hasn't stated whether he wanted wood or plastic furniture.

I said I would ask on here as to what and how much £ are they and availability.

He does goes to Malvern and I said that was a good place.

If anyone knows of one that might be up for sale I can contact my neighbour about it etc.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Nice little collection and present to be left.

I have one the same as the fourth one down, which is dated around WWI and is American, but suspect a standard pattern rifle sword.

Good luck with the research. I am sure someone will assist you in tracing the ones you have highlighted.

    Regards

    Wayne

  4. Jeremy

Did you do any special prep before you sprayed the engine.

I notice it was quite mucky / surface rusty prior to the redecoration.

Sorry I did mean to ask last night :)

Cheers and thanks for the favour last night matey. :D

I'll return them soon as I have done the testing / swopping over etc.

  5. Wayne there was snap sound from the off side. Happened crossing a main road changing up into second. Was a bit worried getting on site in torrential rain in a 4x2. Tried jacking on wood but kept sinking. OS is the shorter shaft which figures.

Trouble is this axle is ENV which is rare these days. Going to see Philip on Dunsfold stall to see what he has back at base. He's about my only hope.

Nice and sunny now everything drying out :-D

I hope he can help you Clive. Enjoy the sunshine and wish I was there :embarrassed: instead of work!

  6. You keep fixing things too nicely and quickly.

Can you ensure the next rebuild has less metal and more rust so we can enjoy your threads longer :D

Mike I like this comment and it is so true of Jeremy. He is a perfectionist and his air filter is testament to that observation.

Keep up the good work Jeremy :D

  7. I spent a few hours on Toastie today to get her running up.

i had to remove civi dizzy, coil, plugs and leads etc and replace with screened items as original

used old series 3 lightweight parts and NOS I had in stock, hence the set up on rocker cover.

after setting timings she fired up after a couple of turns, so today went really well.

Running and showing charging on revving up. Confirmed by AVO meter too

    Ran up to temperature okay

While Engine was warm I used some Swarfega degreaser to clean off some grime, which was very effective

    Good day today.

  8. As someone who does fluctuate when I pop on and off the forum, around work, kids, the Mrs, and of course Tinkering with the things we all come on here for.

It got me thinking about what everyone does as the intensity and time of replies is so random.

    Are you a person that visits the site;

    A) As a quick log on before work with your Cornflakes / A brew.

    B) Logs on at lunch, sat with your sandwiches, whilst at your work desk.

    C) Waits till you get home and had your Tea.

    D) Whilst you are commuting on Public Transport.

    E) Only at the weekends.

    F) Walking the dog with the Smart Phone.

    G) All day long!

    Cheers

  9. Never thought about putting it between the seat on my series 1

A Pukka metal water Gerry Can is one thing, but for the Landy owner that support carrier that sits over the middle FFR battery box is the 'Holly Grail'.

They are getting harder to find, especially the early ones that had the diagonal support legs.

  10. Clive

Your comments are quite accurate and thank you.

The Dixon Bate hitch is far superior and robust and if I was to tow the Arrows I would use one.

However, when not towing I would have the correct period style fitted.

I have seen champs fitted with the modern hitches and whilst a correct item in relative terms they just don't look original.

I guess it's all about as and when towing any trailer, as the original hitch design is Iffy compared to the Dixon Bate item.

    Regards

  11. The towing hitch on my PIG has both of the return springs broken.

Has anyone replaced the springs on these before and if so what with.

I suspect they need to be quite strong to hold the top section down on the U shaped hook.

Also as an alternative and seen on another thread I believe these were fitted to Champs too.

If so are they plentiful in good working order and how much do they go for?

    Ta

  12. Have two spare genny panels in t'shed if you need one :-D and yes thanks I am firing on all cylinders again :D

You may be A Life saver! Can I borrow please. Pretty please.

Glad to hear you are better ;)

I pass along the A40 from Glos on way home so could swing by if you are home from work about 18.30-19.00hrs?

  13. Noo not really I would have used nylon or tuffnol if I had some but as I usually have odd bits of hardwood lying around I thought I'd try that first, by the way have you sorted your charging prob on the piggy ? I have two generators under the bench in the shed should you be in need, not sure if they are any good though :)

The Genny spins like a motor doing the EMER power test, so all seems well. TBC!

I have discovered some damaged cables inside the Genny panel and scorching, so I suspect that's the culprit.

I am happy to borrow a Genny from you to do a double check once I have the wiring fixed, so I will drop you a nod about it via text.

Hope you are back up to 100% fitness now buddy ;)
