1. David being from an Arty profession I have to applaud your pencil skills and touch.

I concur with Clive's comments on particular imagery and content.

However. Perhaps you could do client specific ones under private commission. Such a picture would make a lovely present indeed.

You have most definitely captured the charisma and personality of a SIII 88"

    Great work. Well done!

Keep us posted on your progress.

  2. Eh? Well that stuff there Rick. 8.5 kg of manuals & two vehicles.

Yes! ... And the rest ...... I can vouch for the growing collection, albeit only seen a small selection of fascinating items ... :wow::wow::wow::readbook::readbook::whistle::whistle:

The question should be.... What don't you collect in connection with the RUC ...

    Hehe ;)

  3. Resuming a discussion from 4 years ago....!

    Can anyone tell me the best place to buy a B80 oil filter like this one;

It is the spiral wrapped felt blanket type. Is there only one type of this filter? Marcus Glenn didn't seem to be very sure.

    Barry.

Looks very similar to the B60 filter on first impression!

  4. Spotted that 55 signal Sqn was formed in 1967.

I suspect this toastie served out it service life with 55.

However this would suggest being a 64year build (93EL57) that is was with another unit previously.

    That is the challenge ahead.

More careful paint rubbing at yield something beneath????? ;);)

  5. I worked at Cobham Manor Riding Centre near Maidstone in Kent and my boss bought the Land Rover in about 1982 - he would have bought it from somewhere like Exchange & Mart, although, with the Maidstone reg no, I'm wondering if it came from Banisters . He sold the riding centre in about 1984 and moved to Cornwall taking the Land Rover with him. He must have sold it on to the garage who used it as a a recovery vehicle by 1986. I hope this ties up with any history you've got Wayne!

    Thanks Pete

I am still tracing its history, but info like yours all helps.

We soldier on as it were ....

    Cheers buddy

  6. 1967 formed as 55 Thames and Chelsea Squadron (V), renamed in 1970 to 55 West Lancashire Squadron. Renamed in 1999 as 55 Merseyside squadron. SHQ was always in Liverpool. When formed in 1967, one troop was in Cardiff, and the other was in Chelsea.

page 168 of Royal Corps of Signals Unit histories 1920-2001.

Better heads will elaborate on this, but as far as I know, command markings placed on the near side wing differ. So if it were in Cardiff, it would have one marking, but in Liverpool would have another.

    Thank you.

This vehicle was road registered with a Kent number plate so the Chelsea location may be possible???

It then however ended up In Cornwall for Peter to drive :)

  7. Wayne,

looking at your attached photo, I think you have outboard drum brakes for the handbrake. Industrials tended to have two independent braking systems to satisfy C&U regs as it was often a highway vehicle. Some of the Industrialised 35 and 135 (MF20 I think), had two sets of shoes, one foot the other hand.

Thanks Richard. More useful info as I try to understand this little machine :nut::nut:;)

Appreciate all the info being passed on here!

  8. According to my Operator Manual for the MF 2203 it is a hand operated Diff lock, push forward to lock it.

OMG you have an Operators Manual? I have only just spotted this comment....

I now have document envy :(

I thought it may be a pedal for the Diff Lock, and now its a lever...... Do you have a picture or image Snort?

The plot thickens about info and differences to MF135 / 165's and the like.

In the interim thanks for clearing that up.

  9. I'll take a chance and say there would be a lever on that shaft for the hand operated diff lock but I can't imagine why it would have had a hand lever and not a pedal. Although as previous I could be wrong...

Hair Bear. Thanks. I only have a MF135 and 148 service manual to gleam info from at the minute, but I suspect it is where the diff lock pedal attached.

I have an MF165 parts and service manual on the way from eBay which will help with the rear axle and brakes etc.

I cannot believe how sparse the info is on this NF2203 model. I will keep looking out there and asking appropriate questions.

    Thanks

  10. I did grab a handful of the glass lights. Anyone know what the ones without wingsa are? I am guessing series 1 Land Rover???

Mike they were series 1, 2 and even early 3's also. The light unit is the same across all the series vehicles and the glass lenses were later replaced by the Lucas Bug Eyes.

Also those lights were standard fitment on nearly all FV's including wheeled and tracked armour.

Finding those things will all the wings on is always a challenge as they break easily.

Also a set of clear ones still go for some decent money.

Nice find though, as they are getting rarer over here now ;)
