  1. Hi david Welcome to the "crazy place"
  2. Hi Jack Just waiting for Tony to get back to us with the address for the Busted Inn and we will confirm if A3 or M3 will be used. If anyone who will be travelling using the route wishes to meet up in order to convoy we would be glad to have you along. In response to Aliens post re- convoy protocol. we do have possession of two sets of convoy flags (no poles mind you, but hey!! whats that matter ) so will be able to put together two "packets" at least. In regards to communication between packets, dont forget we wil have to use "hands free" due to legal requirements. If Neil's landy is ready we will be taking 4 vehicles, which will mean that a further 12 vehicles can join up with us with equipment to hand. If anyone else has the neccessary flags then the more the merrier (and it looks pretty damn good with that many vehicles moving as a unit. Great photo opportunity there Snapper ;-) ) Would be good to have a wrecker / recovery vehicle coming along with us ( Got your ears on Tootall Mike) but I am sure that with that many vehicles together anyone who might suffer the misfortune of breaking down / conking out will have a ready tow / assistance on hand. Looks like it's going to be a great trip, look forward to seeing everyone there.
  3. Hi Jack Will confirm the route with Ian and Steve and get back to you regarding meet up points.
  4. There is always the better way !!!! The Essex contingent will probably be travelling in convoy anyway (as always). In fact if there are those who will be travelling down on the Sat am who wish to tag along we should make a meet up somewhere to enable a larger convoy to proceed. You know what they say ............. safety in numbers ...............not only that but can act as a back up in case of breakdowns.
  5. Sorry Neil .............No sprung claws in stock at this time Still got that NATO hook though
  6. Or for the more cynical amongst you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcUtptioHtw
  7. Or maybe even this classic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epI35Y6YuC0
  8. A likely story  Now for the more discerning older viewers amongst you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTF73kqfel4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y97n5-C88V4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zoo7UyI3N0Q Life was so much simpler then
  9. No seat belts unfortunately Neil so it looks like you will have to go the whole hog and buy those. NATO Hitch ................well make me a sensible offer and I might just not refuse
  10. Also see your point Richard, but as Neil did not have belts fitted in the first place I would have thought the new ones would have been the best option.
  11. I am inclined to agree with you there Chris especially when it comes to safety
  12. Now what have I told you before about racing ahead and using ebay?? Looking at two nato hitches right here and probably for a darn sight less than you paid for them. When oh when are you going to learn to ask first before hitting that bid button ;-)

  16. 12 years older than the Saladin 21 years older than the 101 Hey its about time someone restored me to my former glory
  17. Hi Garv Welcome to the clubhouse, watch out for Artist Rifles, he's looking for submariners to crew his Stolly when he swims it  Enjoy mate :-D
  18. Still nothing Jack   Seems you dont like us Post War guys after all :dunno: :dunno:
  19. I'd have thought they were being constructed at the same time Neil, so perhaps Alvis have not covered all the bases so to speak. I would think such things would be a neccessary peice of equipment rather than just a requirement to meet regulations Neil especially given the Stollys sinking frequency. I dont think you would find me in the cab of one without a lifejacket if it was swimming. Perhaps you could ask the question on the Stolly forum Neil, I am sure someone there might know better.
  20. Looks like there is a problem with personal avatars as well Joris as all I can see are the red crosses even after dumping my cache.
  21. Just finished watching a re run of Salvage Squad and the Stolly restoration they did when I got to thinking. I seem to remember they also did a restoration on an Amphicar in a later series and on that particular programme they had to have the vehicle pass a more stringent form of test to enable it to be licensed for using on water. I also seem to recall that in the case of DUKW's they too have to be licensed for both mediums, land or sea. I am sure I have read something to confirm this in recent copies of either Windscreen or CMV. Now that being the case, does the Stolly come under the same criteria? Or is it exempt in some form as it was originally manufactured for the Military? Any takers on this one?
  22. Sorry to hear the news Paul Life sucks eh!
  23. I second that .............Too many rare vehicles have been lost.
