  1. I moved the trailer around the yard yesterday after a bit of a sort out (you won't recognise the old place andy) luckily I was able to get hold of a forklift which made life a lot easier but it was still a right @rse to move around. it now sits neatly in line with all the other trailers me and andy seem to be collecting :-D
  2. andy there's electric and water at the yard, there's a 150ft extension lead in the insulated container right next to the doors and the water is on the fence near the container. you might be best buying a steam cleaner and that way I can clean the Cromwell with it aswell
  3. I have to agree with you there alastair, the sound from the engine alone is worth every penny :-D
  4. john i'll be taking the daf so just let me know if you need something collecting.
  5. andy if mamory serves me right I think they are rated at 5 ton gross but that doesn't mean you can tow it with the rb44 as the hitch rating might be lower. the good news is I will be able to use it behing my daf
  6. in my defence I was actually supposed to be under guidance from a friend who's an ex chieftain ece so I assumed he was up to speed with guiding tanks but he ran off out of sight so I drove on and put a bit of left tiller on too early, (another 12" and i'd have been ok ) but there is no point trying to pass off the blame it lies fair and square with me. what I should have done was stop and wait til he appeared again but I was having too much fun converting money into noise and exhaust smoke
  7. a slight error of judgement when driving the Cromwell around the yard yesterday resulted in the daf coming off worse than the Cromwell (which only scratched the paint) I hardly felt the knock, just goes to show the damage you can do if not on your guard when driving these things !
  8. I like it kev, I made a similar setup for the Churchill track but haven't got round to doing anything with it yet. I will follow your track restoration with great interest and maybe pick up a tip or two. I also plan on dipping mine in molasses once most of the crud has been sand blasted off. hope it all goes well. rick
  9. looks like it's quite far gone, probably best to let a radiator repair guy have a shufti at it.
  10. welcome to the forum, my grandad was also a desert rat as was I. here's a pic of my Cromwell "shufti cush" named after a mk4 that was knocked out at villers bocage. rick
  11. could be fuel starvation through vaporization but I feel it might be the magneto's heating up and something breaking down inside them, first thing i'll do is take them both off and have a look for anything obvious then if nothing shows up swap 'em for a new set and road run it. i'm sure we'll sort it just a matter of how much time and money !
  12. when it comes to the meaning of "shufti cush" I like to think you can always find the cush when looking through the small hole at the front
  13. with regard to the Cromwell breakdown on saturday we managed to find a decent driver today and it performed faultlessly
  14. john the tank has gone down with hindles again and no andy has not been invited this time due to him setting a low personal standard and failing to achieve it (and he's also a ginger)
  15. loaded up the Cromwell today and it should be down there for midday tomorrow
  16. you need to measure the diameter which will give you the calibre which will make identifying them much easier. as a guess i'd say they might be 20mm from a hispano suiza (but ordnance isn't my thing)
  17. you can count on me being there mate but I can't guarantee whether i'll be in a Cromwell or a Bentley
  18. hi Robert I just picked up the same sight and apparently it is fitted to later models of bofors. http://www.awm.gov.au/collection/REL34789/
  19. had a chat with Melvyn about doing a british tank line up with the Cromwell, centurion, chieftain and chally 2 but nothing came of it, although we did get all but the chally on at the same time but due to my heavy right foot by the time the cent and chieftain came on i'd done 2 laps and was leaving the arena
  20. I've seen pictures of this one or another like it they had cranes mounted and where electrically powered with a cable running out the rear, so the engine was probably removed but the g/box might be fitted or it could have had motors running straight onto the final drives
  21. hi tom that's a nice F type hull like mine but did you say that you had to scrap the vehicle
  22. this is a link to the excellent toadmans tank pics which proved an invaluable source of info for the restoration, particularly the interior. http://www.toadmanstankpictures.com/cromwell.htm
