  1. gearbox been out and back in again due to one of the rubber doughnut mountings being threaded and not in the correct position, prop went on today and fitted the handbrake assembly, new friction matterial on the shoes, next big job is the winch, when i went to retreive it from an old storage shed i had forgotten just how bad it was when it was removed from the chassis over 2 years ago, put a wanted ad in but nobody replied so am going to have a go at repairing this one, pics will follow. also some pics of the new brake cables, very nice!!!!
  2. just painting my scammell, had 3 coates of primer, 2 coates of gloss. and 1 coat of semi matt, all small parts hung up and painted with gloss finish and when fit to the chassis the whole thing painted with semi matt, i find that its impossible to fit parts back on without marking things, so as the rebuild progresses it will keep getting a coat of paint, but as a general rule everything will have primer first then gloss followed by semi gloss, scotchbrighted where necessary to give it a key. after all you can never have too much paint on.
  3. not happy about the choice of paint, used eggshell not matt thinking it would be harder wearing but after seeing it on its still far too shiny so will spray it with matt when most of the assembly is done.
  4. a little progress over the last week, axles now back under chassis and gearbox cleaned ready for paint.
  5. you can crop them that will work

  7. hi neils v. thanks for the pm, will give parry a ring.
  8. will try to reunite back axles with the chassis this week, thats if the new u bolt comes fairly soon, original one had lost most of its thread, now have a deadline to work to, june 2014 for the 70th aniversary in normandy, it will come round sooner than i think.
  9. as promised a few pics, last two are before and after cleaning in the blast cabinet with glass not grit. felt a little uneasy under 2 tons of axle when painting.
  10. what size do they need to be and how do you reduce them if they are too large.
  11. hi richard, will get some pics on soon to show how far ive got, as for the engine the saga started 2 years ago, ive no experiance of rebuilding engines so found an old chap to strip the gardner for me and when in bits found that the bearings in the big ends were starting to break up, it was like peices of a jigsaw coming away, the crank was allready ground to maximum so after speaking to various peaple i sent it to gardner enthusiast for another crank and bearings to be fitted, new liners in the blocks and new valves and seats then re asemble the engine for me, after 18 months and still not finished i went to pick up all the bits to find they had been stored in a shipping container and had suffered from water damage. now i am redoing some of the work and trying to get it up and running. a very frustrating time to say the least. :-(

  21. hi matadormike, if the tank is empty of red when you put the derv in or white fuel as you call it you wont have a problem, no need to clean the tank unless you think there might be dirt in there, as for the filters you wont have to go far before the red diesel will have gone,i say this as i use a mix of fuels on the farm and have been dipped by the ministry people and never had a problem.
