  1. It won't work for me unfortunately mate - although please let him know that this young person in England (only just 18) is very interested in what happened over sixty years ago, if it wasn't for him and his fellow soldiers actions we wouldn't be here now, or if we were it wouldn't be much of a life
  2. Good question! The place should be open on Friday, although of course most of the stuff will be there on the saturday/sunday and the air displays are on the saturday/sunday as well. Gates open about 10:30 on the weekend I think, best to e-mail the organiser at the e-mail address on the website and ask.
  3. Looks like i'll be there on the Sunday - in civvie clothes (I have no others, i'm just a MOP at the moment!), looks like it'll be a great weekend, just hope the weather holds out
  4. Anyone out there with a British/Commonwealth marked vehicle fancy coming to a fantastic show in Leicestershire on 8th-10th September? There'll be plenty of other vehicles and tanks, including from the Wheatcroft collection. As well as that, there'll also be air displays on the Saturday and Sunday from a Spitfire, Messerschmitt 109, TWO P-51 Mustangs, an Arnhem veteran Dakota, as well as light WW2 aircraft flying in, as well as a huge battle. More information here http://www.victoryshow.co.uk/ Let me know if you're interested and i'll pass you on to the event organiser, hoping to get as many vehicles as possible, last year the place was swamped by Jimmys, Dodges and Jeeps so would be good to get some British vehicles.
  5. Anyone going to the Victory Show this year? Hope to be there on one day, looks like i'll be helping out as ground crew for the Dakota that's displaying on at least one day, will try my hardest to get there at some point though. More info on it here http://www.victoryshow.co.uk/

    BSA M20

Always been a big fan of the BSA M20 myself, at the moment i'm looking for a motorbike as I can't afford a car (just finished 6 form), but unfortunately i'm restricted to 125cc until i'm 21, so an M20 is out of the question for a few years unless I want something pretty to look at!
  7. Hey all, i've started to become more interested in the British campaign in the far east - does anyone know what sort of vehicles were used? I've read many times that the troops there were always last on the list for new vehicles, i've seen a few photos of vehicles, such as M3 Lee/Grant tanks, CMP trucks and Dodge WC's, and of course the Jeep, but would be interested in seeing photos of others or what other vehicles were used (I've heard of 'bren carriers' being used but don't know if it refers to the original bren carrier or the universal carrier) Cheers, Rob
  8. Anyone know when wwiireenacting.co.uk will be back online again? Need to get in contact with Beachmaster off the forum, if anyone has any contact details for him i'd be very grateful. Cheers, Rob
  9. Great stuff, if it's any use, when I get the time i'll scan in my Grandads photos from his time in North Africa showing the 3.7inch AA gun
  10. Got a whole website about the Morris LRC here http://www.freewebs.com/morris-recce/index.htm it needs updating though, got a gallery of Morris LRC pics here as well http://community.webshots.com/user/morrislrc if you're friend is interested in getting up and close to either LRC, the RAF Museum have a nice Humber LRC in desert camo, and the Tank Museum will let you into their Morris LRC (Was planning to but couldn't get there in the end)
  11. Looks like in the Isle of Wight two Sherman Grizzly tanks are being made into one workable Grizzly http://www.solent.tv/pageviewer.aspx?page=S632836392172922500
  12. There's five of them altogether, the baseline was two million dollars but they expected that it would rise (doesn't every estimate!) so not sure, the website for the project is here http://www.stormbirds.com/project/index.html
  13. It's apparently been proven that there are late-WW2 german aircraft under Berlin airport in bunkers. Apparently their fuelled and bombed up ready to go, so i'm guessing they're too risky to be moved, although they'd be worth millions on the warbird market (just look at how much the repro Me 262's sold for!)
  14. Uppottery airfields just been sold at auction, maybe the new owner could be asked, never know they might have an interest themselves

    First MV

Cheers, I wouldn't say the M201 is 'only' an M201, if you ask me it's still as much as a Jeep as the Willys one (I still can't tell the difference). The only thing I don't want happening is turning up to a show to have a good time, and then get slated at by Jeep purists for having it in non-original colours or modifying it (seen a quite nice Jeep used as a crash tender by the RAF)

    First MV

After many years of drooling over other peoples military vehicles, in a year or so I should, hopefully, have the money to afford my own military vehicle. What would you lot reccomend as a first military vehicle? Insurance for it will be an issue, as by the time I get one i'll be 18/19, so preferably something not too large, and also something not too complicated to drive or keep in good shape. Was thinking something like a Hotchkiss M201 and perhaps do it in an RAF scheme (was thinking second tactical air force), parts look pretty readily available and cheap, plus I wouldn't have people moaning at me for painting a Willys Jeep in whatever colours I wanted. Cheers, Rob
  17. On the first post, what on earth is the vehicle second from bottom? Reminds me of a Humber LRC, but obviously it's not.
  18. Crikey that leg looks pretty realistic  ! What's the filming for?
  19. Some nice pics of a Fordson WOT1 crash tender and a K2 ambulance on the IWM Collections site http://www.iwmcollections.org.uk/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpcgi.exe?AC=GET_RECORD&XC=/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpcgi.exe&BU=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iwmcollections.org.uk%2FqryPhotoImg.asp&TN=Uncat&SN=AUTO24712&SE=1997&RN=3&MR=25&TR=0&TX=1000&ES=0&CS=1&XP=&RF=PhotoImgResults&EF=&DF=PhotoImgDetailed&RL=0&EL=0&DL=0&NP=1&ID=&MF=&MQ=&TI=0&DT=&ST=0&IR=185425&NR=0&NB=0&SV=0&BG=0&FG=0&QS= http://www.iwmcollections.org.uk/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpcgi.exe?AC=GET_RECORD&XC=/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpcgi.exe&BU=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iwmcollections.org.uk%2FqryPhotoImg.asp&TN=Uncat&SN=AUTO24712&SE=1997&RN=4&MR=25&TR=0&TX=1000&ES=0&CS=1&XP=&RF=PhotoImgResults&EF=&DF=PhotoImgDetailed&RL=0&EL=0&DL=0&NP=1&ID=&MF=&MQ=&TI=0&DT=&ST=0&IR=185426&NR=0&NB=0&SV=0&BG=0&FG=0&QS= http://www.iwmcollections.org.uk/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpcgi.exe?AC=GET_RECORD&XC=/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpcgi.exe&BU=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iwmcollections.org.uk%2FqryPhotoImg.asp&TN=Uncat&SN=AUTO24712&SE=1997&RN=6&MR=25&TR=0&TX=1000&ES=0&CS=1&XP=&RF=PhotoImgResults&EF=&DF=PhotoImgDetailed&RL=0&EL=0&DL=0&NP=1&ID=&MF=&MQ=&TI=0&DT=&ST=0&IR=185428&NR=0&NB=0&SV=0&BG=0&FG=0&QS=
  20. Anyone know what the crash tender was? You see the back of one very briefly heading towards the crash landed B17 early on in the movie, you only see the back so can't tell what it is. Also, who owned the David Brown bomb tractor and where did that go?
  21. Cheers, when you do find it that'd be very useful, i'm buying a Fordson WOT1 fire tender soon (too bad it's in 1/76th scale!) and not sure what to paint it. By the way, did you get my PM the other day?
  22. I've seen this asked on another forum so thought I might give it a go here. In WW2, what colour would the emergency vehicle's at RAF bases (especially the fire tenders) be painted in? The Airfix kit of an Austin K6 fire tender says it should be in red, but the Fordson fire tender I saw the other day was a sort of olive drab, and i've seen models in RAF blue, can anyone help out?
  23. Went to the Lincolnshire Aviation Centre at East Kirkby yesterday, they've got some very nice WW2 RAF vehicles, ive attached some pics of some of them. Fordson WOT1 crew coach Fordson WOT1 crew coach and Willys Jeep Fordson WOT1 fire tender Anyone know what this is? Never seen anything like it before, thought maybe it was some post-war vehicle More photos from East Kirkby on my online album http://community.webshots.com/user/rlangham12
  24. Gotta be the Saladin for looks, looks big mean and fantastic, but for going to shows i'd have to choose the Saracen because of the passenger compartment
  25. That's what I thought: a 3.7" Bofors. Were they made by bofors? Didn't know that, thought they were Vickers, only heard of the 37mm and the 40mm Bofors before
