Sorry to hear the bad news
Really sucks when you buy something in good faith and then find you've effectively been had!! (now keeping my fingers crossed given I've just gone and bought..)
Console yourself with the thought of all the fun you WILL have once she's up and running though...

£10k for a nice Saladin would be a bit of a bargain!
"Nice" in this context I hasten to add is not nice as applied to the other 2 member of the family - rather they were complete but in need of much work. There was another one that was advertised as a full resto - but the seller wanted all sorts of info before he'd reveal the price - draw your own conclusions from that one!! :shock: :shock:

Ooops!!!!! :oops: :oops: :oops: :oops:
Typo on my part - sorry folks -should have read:

Some one pointed ths out to me tonight: if you prefix the sites URL with http://www.gabby.com you get a live chat window up that allows I.M. style comms with any one else who's done the same thing!!
Thus putting http://www.gabbly.com/http://www.hmvf.co.uk/forum/index.php gets a chat window up for this site....
Works in IE and FireFox but not Opera - yet!!!!
Edit by Joris, fixed the URL

True alas :cry: :cry:
I've been scanning MV prices for over a year now and I think I'v onlyever seen two Saladins come up for sale and comapred to the prices of equivalent Saracens or Stalwarts they were priced at what I'd term "Silly Money" - IRO £10K
-
Saladins seem popular - they've got 7 out of the 13 votes cast at this time!!!!
Is this because they tend to roll back onto other vehicles or????????
-
On the way home from hell - I mean work - tonight I saw a WW2 harley, complete with the weapon boot and panniers parked outside a cafe in Whalebone Lane South opposite the Texaco garage. Looked quite nice and I wondered if any one on here was the owner????

Tents
in MV Chatter
Paul,You could go for a 9x9 Command Tent, if it's to be used by one or two people. They are on ebay occasionally for £250 - £300
One up there now - see:
Starting bid of £350 or a "buy it now" of £450 - free postage!!
-
I do, I do - believe me I do - but if I park her on the drive at home then:
1) the level of the drive will drop below water level
2) the local brats will wreck her :cry:
So although we'll be going down to pay the money and get the manuals/paperwork etc Sunday afternoon after the Bunker she's going to have to stay in East Sussex until a home can be found!!!!!!
-
Things progress - money cleared into our account today!!!
In theory we could get it out , pay the man on Sat morning and drive back for the bunker bash. But with nowhere currently to put her I don't think thats a wise idea just yet

Never had those problems with Antars
MOD should have stuck with British engineering rather than buying it's kit from all over the globe!!!!! :twisted: :twisted:
-
Yep - thats the stuff to use. Had recourse to it some years ago when the deadlining of a Vanden Plas 4 Litre R decided to part company with the rest of the car. Worked a treat!!!
-
VERY impressive - yet another to add to the "Must see" list!!! Well done!!!!
-
Alas we're in France that weekend - well more specifically returning from a weeks stress-relieving break in the Loire Valley Hopefully will have had plenty of vino but not too much collapso....
Hoping to make it next year though - with vehicle if things pan out OK.

And what state are the ones in the Russian collection in these days???
I thought they had the only full collection going with:
* Tiger 1
* Tiger 2 (King Tiger)
* Jagd Tiger
* Sturm Tiger
* Tiger (P) Elefant
in the collection

Think I've convinced the other half to turn up for the day so we should be there about mid-day. She won't be staying over night though - got a 16 yr old daughter and a Mutt Mk 1 to keep an eye one - so if any one else needs somewhere to crash-out there'll be room in the tent!!
-
Give me a yell after mid-June and you can have a look at mine (FV622) - that should open the eyes a bit!!!
-
Sensible words!!! I'd say stick with the pig and invest in it's future rather than dilute funds with a second vehicle.
If you must persist then each of the 4 listed have their own adherents on the forum and can advise of the unique aspect of the vehicle. My favourite is the Stalwart - and for that most consider me totally insane!! Bear these points in mid though before parting with the hard-earned readies:
* All of them are VERY labour intensive - and cows to work on if something goes wrong. As it will sooner or later.
* All will require investment in MUCH heavier tools and lifting gear than you likely currently have.
* All will have much more limited useable ranges - usually about 50 miles or so - before the need for a transporter comes into the equation thus adding extra operating costs.
* All will have a fetish for fuel stations that would make old 2 Shags affair with his secretary seem like a playground romance!! The Stalwart has an Army nominated range of 4 MPG - on the owners forum they state it's nearer 2.5 MPG... OK - a Mk 2 432 with a multi-fuel engine will be able to use the mixed stuff service stations get rid off but you can't gurantee a constant supply of this.
* All will require access to a bigger storage area, none really lend themselves to home storage, thus adding yet more cost.
* The 432 will require an additional group added to your driving license (H) - the Stalwart is a grey area right now so we won't go there but suffice it to say in theory you should have a class2 HGV as its post 1960.
* Maintenance bills on the Stalwart for sure will make your pigs look like loose change. Theres's over 180 litres of oil of varying type plus something called "Oildag" for the bevel oxes required when a full service is done (and the Oildag is described as "Gobsmackingly expensive"!!) whilst the fuel tank hold 454 litres (100 galls to the old school). Virtually every job is a 2-man one and the majority will involve hanging upside down inside the punt or hull. I would imagine the other FV6xx series vehicles would be similar
Having read this - are you still convinced you need a second vehicle???
-
The more I'm hearing the more I'm becoming convinced that one of these conversions is next on the "to save up for" list!!!

Another letter from Northern Rock today advising they had received the forms, loan had been finalized and the date payments would commence.
Just need to wait for the money to be transferred via the banking system.
Would have loved for her to have been here for the Bunker weekend but I doubt the cash will have cleared by then - realistically I think we're looking at the second W/E in June as being the earliest I can get her :cry:
as we're off to France for a weeks caravan rally the W/E after the bunker event. Need now to talk to RoadSure to arrange insurance and see if they have an upper class (over 7.5t) on their recovery service - if they do then driving her home is on. If not then transport might have to be considered!! I've also asked the seller if he minds it staying where it is until a home can be found for her.
We're getting there folks -slowly but surely we are getting there
-
Oh - I'm SO glad you said that
Cash right now is more than a bit tight around here these days but I happen to have some stella and worthingtons cached around the house
-
Cheers Lee!!
Got a Khyam tent here I can use - and an old 58 pattern crash outbag in the wardrobe Must remember some beer money though!!!!!

Why ever not???
(don't tell me you've got the Saracen jammed in the Fort gates??? )
trust the missus to book our holiday on these days :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:
Ah - I see!!! Well - look on the bright side - at least yours didn't arrange for the family to be in France the weekend you were supposed to be collecting your beloved Stalwart!!!
Serious note - whats the story with camping over night at the show???
Fees, things like that.......

£125 to repair/recover a Stalwart - I AM covered after all and so is Richards Militant!! (not to mention Stuarts Saracen...)
I can live with that cost for the peace of mind it gives
RAC cover for the car this year was touching the £140 mark so £125 for any weight is not too bad
Bet it goes up again, though, the first time one of the Alvis 6x6 family conks out somewhere!!!!
